the concrete domain of space in languages other than English. Moreover, the study demonstrates that not only spatial experience can influence the way people understand time, but also the process of thinking about spatial experience. Overall, the findings of the present research provide strong evidence for the claim that people do indeed understand time through spatial experience. Most importantly, it emphasizes the need for further research in order to bring this theoretical knowledge into practice.

Abstract

The article is devoted to the scientific researches on the creative writings of the classic of the Kazakh literature Mukhtar Auezov in Turkey based on the example of the monographic research of the scholar in philology from Turkey Ali Abbas Chinar "Research on Kazakh culture and literature". One of the chapters of the monograph is devoted to the creative writings of Mukhtar Auezov. Ali Abbas Chinar observes the entire life and creative path, especially noting the contribution of the writer, scientist, teacher and famous public figure Mukhtar Auezov to the culture and literature of Kazakhstan.

Keywords: the Kazakh literature, Mukhtar Auezov, Turkey.

The works of foreign authors on literary studies occupy an important place in the process of foreign reception of the Kazakh literature. An example of a fruitful research activity on the Kazakh literature abroad is the monographic study of a scientist from Turkey Ali Abbas Chinar "Study of Kazakh culture and literature" [1], published in 2006 in the city of Mugla. Historical, cognitive and scientific value for Turkish readers and specialists in oriental literature is represented by the chapter devoted to the creativity of the classic of the Kazakh literature Mukhtar Auezov (1897-1961).

Ali Abbas Chinar is a philologist, author of many scientific publications on the history of folklore and Turkish literature. He is an assistant professor at the Department of Contemporary Turkic Literature at Mugla University. In 1986, he was conferred PhD degree in Philology in folklore studies at the Institute of Humanities at the University of Hacettepe. Since 1995 he has been teaching at the Mugla University at the Faculty of Modern Turkic Languages and Literature. Ali Abbas Chinar spoke at international conferences not only in Turkey, but also in Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan,

and Uzbekistan. In addition to the monograph "Study of Kazakh culture and literature", he is the author of many scientific articles and a number of books on the creativity of the classics of the Kazakh literature, which have been published since 1993 in Turkey and Kazakhstan.

Ali Abbas Chinar's research on Kazakh folklore and Kazakh literature, which is one of the most important sources of the Turkic cultural treasury, is due to the fact that they are not well known in Turkey. At the same time, the researcher realizes that in order to introduce the readers of Turkey to the unique culture of Kazakhstan in full is an extensive objective of the joint efforts of the scientists, and his modest work in the form of the articles and monographs is just a "grain of sand in the ocean". He had the opportunity to visit Kazakhstan ten times in the period from 1992 to 2002, during which he was engaged in serious research activities and participated in conferences. Ali Abbas Chinar in his monograph "Study of Kazakh culture and literature" emphasized that he preserved the hospitality of the people of Kazakhstan in his heart forever, which he found

everywhere, traveling across the Kazakh steppes. In his book, the Turkish scientist expresses acknowledgement to many Kazakh scientists for the assistance in conducting the research.

Namyk Kemal Zeybek in the preface to the book by Ali Abbas Chinar emphasizes the contribution of the Kazakh culture to the world one: "The Kazakhs gave the great poet Abai and the great writer Mukhtar Aue-zov to the world, as well as the representatives of the earlier period.... M.Auezov demonstrated the image of the Kazakhs, the Kazakh spirit, the horsemen of the steppe, the spirit of the steppe to the whole world" [1, p.VII].

A characteristic feature of the style of the Turkish scientist is the introduction to the review of the creative path of the Kazakh writers and poets with their brief biographical data, which was conditioned by the need for a general presentation of the personality for the Turkish reader, who is still little familiar with Kazakh literature.

Recreating the biography of Mukhtar Auezov, the Turkish scientist conveys all the main stages of the biography of the writer, starting from childhood and adolescence: in 1908 he graduated from a Russian elementary school, a year later he entered the five-year school in Semipalatinsk, in 1915 he entered the teacher's seminary, and he graduated from it in 1919. He emphasizes the role of the university years spent in Leningrad and Tashkent in shaping his worldview. He observes the entire life and creative path, especially noting the contribution of the writer, scientist, teacher and famous public figure Mukhtar Auezov to the culture and literature of Kazakhstan: "Mukhtar Auezov worked for many years as a writer and a scientist at the same time. Until the last days of his life he continued his pedagogical activity ... M. Auezov, as a well-known public figure, contributed to the strengthening of the ties between the peoples of the world as well as stabilization in the world" [1, p. 167]. Further, he highlights the activities of Auezov as a critic, translator, and publicist.

According to Ali Abbas Chinar, the famous Kazakh writer, scientist and folklorist enriched the Kazakh literature with new materials and reflected the peculiarities of the centuries-old history and culture of the Kazakh people in his works. The following aspect is important: he found a way to the hearts of the readers.

Reminding about the fact that "Russian writers called him the second Abai or Sholokhov of the East", Ali Abbas Chinar recognizes the regularity of such a statement: "Abai is a personality who contributed to the advancement of Kazakh culture, poetry and literature a step forward. Abai is a preacher of science, knowledge and education. Abai has always served as an example for Mukhtar Auezov, and as a scientist he was a follower of Abai" [1, p. 168]. According to Ali Abbas Chinar, the spiritual power of Abai was a creative, constructive and educational source for Auezov. Love and admiration by Abai's poetry served as a starting point in the study of his creative writings. At the age of six, Mukhtar was surrounded by the people, who knew Abai's poems by heart and sang his songs, and for the first time in his grandfather's yurt, he discovered for himself Abai's poems which were rewritten by hand.

Later, during his school years, he found a collection of Abai's poems, published in 1909 in St. Petersburg.

The researcher from Turkey notes the lack of information about the writer's youth, about student life in Leningrad and Tashkent. Ali Abbas Chinar tries to acquaint the Turkic-speaking readers as much as possible not only with biographical data about the Kazakh prose writer, but also how his memory is honored in his homeland. He writes about the Museum of Mukhtar Omarkhanovich Auezov, about films and theatrical performances based on his plays. He indicates that Kazakh Academic Drama Theater and the Institute of Literature and Art are named after M.O. Auezov. Literary scholars are studying the creative heritage of Abai and M.O. Auezov, and such areas of Kazakh literary criticism as Abai studies and Auezov studies are successfully developing.

Ali Abbas Chinar divides the creative path of Mukhtar Auezov into two periods: the first (from the beginning of the publication of his works until the 30s of the XX century) and the second (from the 1930s to the end of his life), rightly emphasizing that both periods are different in view of the subject of the works, style and language: "At the initial stage of his creativity, the writer attaches great importance to the pre-rev-olutionary life of the Kazakhs, their feelings and worldview. The works related to the second period highlight the issues of collectivization, explore the influence of the publicity on the formation of new political views" [1, p. 173].

In his reflections on the creative writings of M.O. Auezov Ali Abbas Chinar reveals a good knowledge of the specifics of the writer's position on many complex issues: "He never wrote the works in favor of the party, and always appreciated knowledge, labor, law and truth" [1, p. 173]. Moreover, by truth he understood the life of the people, their feelings and views. Hence- there is the understanding of the duty of the writer, which is aimed to reflect the truth in a clear and impeccable way.

The protagonist of the prose of M.O. Auezov is a famous Kazakh poet Abai. Abai's theme was significant for his research activities: "The writer, on the one hand, focuses his research work on Abai, evaluates his views. On the other hand, he develops the theme of Abai in his novels, stories and plays" [1, p. 174]. The conclusion of Ali Abbas Chinar about the contribution of Abai and Auezov to their native literature is important: "Auezov broke the traditional canons in prose, and Abai - in poetry" [1, p. 175].

Analyzing the monograph of the Turkish scientist, the consonance of many of his views and assessments, the responses and opinions of other prominent literary scholars should be noted. In particular, let us pay attention, on how the Director of the A.M. Gorky Institute of World Literature, RAS, A.B. Kudelin assesses the contribution of Abai and Auezov to the world literary process: "The synthesis of all the best works created by the national tradition, with the works that meet the needs of the development of national literature based on the world literary experience - this is the path of Abai Kunanbayev in literature and Mukhtar Auezov as well. And particularly on this path the outstanding Kazakh writer achieved the world recognition" [2, p.98].

Following the German writer Alfred Kurella, the researcher from Turkey notes the poetry of M.O. Auezov, his similarity with Shakespeare in the ability to reveal the feelings and views of the characters and cites the key statement of Ch. Aitmatov about the influence of M.O. Auezov on the spiritual life of neighboring republics and contemporary Central Asian literary thought.

In the field of Kazakh drama, M.O. Auezov is its theorist and playwright, scientist and critic, who was at the origins of the Kazakh national theater. He was only 20 years old, emphasizes Ali Abbas Chinar, when he wrote his first play "Enlik Kebek" and staged it in the village of Aigerim, at the wedding of Akish - Abai's granddaughter. In total, he wrote about 20 plays, and many of them are based on folk art.

Analyzing the dramatic works of M.O. Auezov, a researcher from Turkey observes the influence of Russian and world dramaturgy, writes about the role of Se-mipalatinsk as a cultural and educational center in the theatrical art of Kazakhstan, about the study period in Leningrad and further rapprochement of Mukhtar Omarkhanovich with the theater, the application of the knowledge gained in Kazakh theater, which is reflected in the article "History of the Kazakh theater". Thus, thanks to the original plays of M.O. Auezov and the best examples of the world and Russian drama translated by him ("Othello" by W. Shakespeare, "The Government Inspector" by N.V. Gogol, "Aristocrats" by N. Pogodin, "Lyubov Yarovaya" by K. Trenev), the Kazakh prose writer and playwright made a significant contribution to development of Kazakh drama.

The main themes of M.O. Auezov's novels was scientific creativity, knowledge, innovation, the struggle of the new with the old, female images etc. Moreover, he revealed the role of women in Kazakh society in the traditions of Abai and Ibrai Altynsarin.

Summarizing the contribution of M.O. Auezov in translation studies, Ali Abbas Chinar again emphasizes the development of traditions, which were began by Abai and Ibrai Altynsarin. In 1930-1940 Mukhtar Aue-zov translated such works from Russian and world literature as "Othello" by W. Shakespeare, "Home of the Gentry" by I.S. Turgenev, "The Government Inspector" by N.V. Gogol, "Aristocrats" by N. Pogodin, "The Wolf' by J. London, "Bulka" by Leo Tolstoy. In the 1950s, thanks to the translations of "The Taming of the Shrew" by W. Shakespeare, "LyubovYarovaya" by K. Trenev, "Officer" by Kron, "Fear" by B. Afinogenov, he made a huge contribution to the development of dramatic art in Kazakhstan. The art of translation makes him think about this science. The article "Some theoretical issues of literary translation" examines the topic of translation, emphasizes the need for literary translation. As a result of these works, M.O. Auezov becomes a member of the II All-Union Congress of Literary Translation. Ali Abbas Chinar calls Mukhtar Auezov a "master of translations".

Ali Abbas Chinar writes poetically about M.O. Auezov's epic novel "The Path of Abai": "In the creativity of Auezov, who was imbued with Eastern and Western culture, who knew all the smallest specifics of the Kazakh steppe and life, we see the broadest hori-

zons, similar to those where he was born. He is a literary giant, who is rediscovering, exciting, providing all this knowledge for the use of the mankind. The novel "The Path of Abai", which is characterized by the encyclopedia of Kazakh culture, addresses not only a narrow environment, but also the wide horizons, self-expression of Kazakh culture and the Kazakhs. "The Path of Abai" is called the Kazakh epic. Each epic has its own character. The character of this novel is Abai" [1, p.183].

From the image of the main character, the Turkish researcher proceeds to the composition of the novel and traces the main stages of M.O. Auezov's work on this artwork.

"The thousand-year treasury of the culture of the Kazakh people was created by Abai, - considers Ali Abbas Chinar. - Abai gave the beginning of the creativity of Auezov, while Auezov created the "Path of Abai". This work served as a reason for acquaintance of the whole world with the worldview of the Kazakh people and the proclamation of Abai and Auezov as en-lighteners. If there was no "The Path of Abai", perhaps the world community's acquaintance with Abai and Auezov would have happened much later. Thanks to this work, the timely acquaintance with Abai and with the author of the novel - Mukhtar Auezov took place. In terms of his creative essence, Auezov can be described as the second Abai. In the novel "The Path of Abai", which is considered the greatest work of the Kazakh literature, the history of fifty years of life and social changes in the life of the Kazakhs during the late XIX - early XX centuries is being developed. "The Path of Abai" is an encyclopedia of social changes in Kazakh society" [1, p.185-186].

According to Ali Abbas Chinar, the peculiarity of the composition is the depiction of the events by Mukhtar Auezov in chronological sequence: "Throughout the entire work, he uses Abai's poems and prose instructions; conveying the thoughts of the characters of the novel, and gives examples from the works of Abai. Thus, it becomes possible to trace the chronological sequence of the development of Abai's poetics" [1, p. 188].

Ali Abbas Chinar analyzes not only the composition, the poetics of the epic novel, but also examines the images of the main characters, conflicts, female characters. He writes poetically about women, for example, about women who are relatives to Abai, Ulzhan and Zere. Their characters are the discovery of the author himself and occupy the most important place among female characters in Kazakh literature. "In the novel we see a significant figure of a Kazakh woman of the XIX century" [1, p. 193].

The title of the novel "The Path of Abai", emphasizes Ali Abbas Chinar, is also not accidental. The Turkish scholar explains that the word "path" in the title of the novel means a path to the future. Indeed, Abai devoted his whole life to the unity of the Kazakh people, their independence. Ali Abbas Chinar believes that due to the novel "The Path of Abai", the realism entered the Kazakh literature. Mukhtar Auezov successfully revealed Abai's poetic psychology.

So, based on the example of the research activities of Ali Abbas Chinar, it is clearly seen that after the absence of literary and cultural contacts with neighboring eastern countries for many decades, the renewal of spiritual relationships during the period of independence created the conditions for the appearance of the research works on the creativity of the classics of the Kazakh literature in foreign Eastern countries. With his scientific works, Ali Abbas Chinar made a significant contribution to the popularization of Kazakh literature in Turkey.

The article was prepared in the framework of the research project "Formation of new humanitarian

knowledge and conducting innovative research in the context of modernization of public consciousness in the field of literary criticism and art studies" program-targeted funding of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
