The article describes the genre of folklore, its history and principles of development. It is based on information about the origin, evolution, features and structure of the folklore genre. The creative activity of the French ethnographer and folklorist Charles-Arnold Curr van Gennep is also covered. He is recognized as the founder of the folklore genre in France.

INTRODUCTION
