TRANSLATION OF GEOGRAPHICAL TERMS IN ENGLISH Annotation
A geographical term is a word or part of a vocabulary used within the science of geography. Often times a geographical term is based on or derived from the physical features of an area. For example; topography, latitude, and climate are all common geographical terms. The «ography» part comes from the Greek word graphein, which is literally to write about something. The word «graph» derives from the same basis. Thus, GEO + GRAPHY literally means «to write about the Earth» We have commonly come to understand that the translation might also be taken as to describe and map the earth.

The article, based on a large analyzed textual material on geography, shows that in order to successfully master a foreign language and translate, it is necessary not only to have background knowledge in the humanities, but also to take into account knowledge from the field of natural sciences. To translate highly specialized texts, the translator requires more in-depth subject knowledge and understanding of the terminology of the relevant science. Recommendations are given for translating geographical contexts into English. Translating proper names could be challenging as they contain aspects of historical, semantic, geographical, or social meanings of a particular culture. Such problems are extended to the translation of geographical names in which a mistranslation may confuse the readers and jeopardize (the entire) translation because of «unsuccessful rendition» of a place name. There are several principles to bear in mind in the translation of geographical names. The information below provides helpful guidelines. A translation is a transformation that occurs when a figure is moved from one location to another location without changing its size, shape or orientation. In the coordinate
plane we can draw the translation if we know the direction and how far the figure should be moved. Geography (from Greek yewypa^ia - geographia, lit. «earth describe-write») is the study of the Earth and its lands, features, inhabitants, and phenomena. The first recorded use of the word geography was by Eratosthenes, a Greek scholar who lived from 276-194 BC who is credited with creating the discipline of geography (Eratosthenes' Geography. Geography can also influence the kind of variations we see in regional dialects. The first way this can occur is through contact with neighboring communities that speak other languages. After a while, the groups might adopt some vocabulary from the other language or form a new language incorporating elements of both. Geography is the study and revision of physical features of the Earth and its atmosphere; the three major branches of geography are Human Geography, Physical Geography, and Environmental Geography.
When studying an academic discipline that features much intricate terminology such as geography, it is crucial to depend upon a glossary.
These are common terms that relate to geographic maps: latitude, longitude, topographic map, political map, scale, and distribution. The «ography» part comes from the Greek word graphein, which is literally to write about something. The word «graph» derives from the same basis. Thus, GEO + GRAPHY literally means «to write about the Earth.» We have commonly come to understand that the translation might also be taken as to describe and map the earth. A gazetteer is a geographical dictionary or directory used in conjunction with a map or atlas. It typically contains information concerning the geographical makeup, social statistics and physical features of a country, region, or continent. The five themes of geography are location, place, region, movement, and humanenvironment interaction. The five themes enable you to discuss and explain people, places, and environments of the past and present. References:
