Application of prophylactic systems for water-air polishing of dental hard tissues, provides fast and comfortable for patients removal of biofilm. The mechanism of action is the supply of water and abrasive powder combined with compressed air. Materials containing calcium hydrogencarbonate, sodium hydrogencarbonate, glycine, erythritol, trehalose are used as abrasive particles. The key factor in water-air polishing is the choice of the characteristics of the apparatus and the abrasive powder. But dentists and hygienists are often guided by their experience and skill, as there are no recommendations or standards for this technique.

PARAMETERS OF SIZES AND SHAPES OF ABRASIVE COMPONENTS FOR WATERAIR POLISHING OF TEETH

Relevance. Application of prophylactic systems for water-air polishing of dental hard tissues, provides fast and comfortable for patients removal of biofilm. The mechanism of action is the supply of water and abrasive powder combined with compressed air. Materials containing calcium hydrogencarbonate, sodium hydrogencarbonate, glycine, erythritol, trehalose are used as abrasive particles. The key factor in water-air polishing is the choice of the characteristics of the apparatus and the abrasive powder. But dentists and hygienists are often guided by their experience and skill, as there are no recommendations or standards for this technique.

The aim of the study was to compare the size and shape parameters of abrasive granules used in water-air polishing apparatuses for hard dental tissues.

Materials and methods. Two abrasive components with the same spherical particle shape were selected for the study: No.1 - based on glycine (25 p,m) and No. 2- based on erythritol (14 p,m). To measure linear dimensions, the particles were scanned using an optical profilometer.

Results. Spherical shaped particles were found in samples No.1 and No.2, and the average granule size was 24.4 p,m and 41.4 p,m, respectively.

Conclusions. In the course of the conducted study in sample No. 2, some discrepancy between the values of the average particle size and the manufacturer's data was revealed. At the same time the parameters of granule shape of samples No. 1 and No. 2 corresponded.
