Exhibition «The Splendor of artistic heritage in Russia»

in Arkhangelsk

The old mansion on the Embankment of the Northern Dvina in Arkhangelsk is an architectural monument that was built in 1786. There is an exhibition hall with enfilades on the ground floor of the house which are beautiful in architectural design. Arched openings divide the exhibition space into three parts. Thanks to this layout the works presented by the Higher school of folk arts were successfully exhibited and divided into areas of traditional applied art.

On May 07, 2024 the exhibition "The Splendor of Russia's Artistic Heritage" opened here (fig. I9). The exhibition included 86 exhibits: lacquer miniature painting, artistic embroidery, artistic lace weaving, jewelry, church historical painting, artistic bone carving, nizhny tagil painting, bogorodsky artistic wood carving (fig- 2).

The exhibition is unique according to the fact that the works of students of the Higher school of folk arts (academy) are presented to the dwellers of Arkhangelsk for the first time in a twenty-year period. Elena Andreevna Vtorygina (deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation) sent a congratulatory address in honor of the opening of the exhibition and she was its main initiator.

The selection of products for display was not accidental. The staff of the Higher school of folk arts (academy) placed the main emphasis on artistic bone carving since this is a traditional craft for the Arkhangelsk region (fig. 3). Arkhangelsk land is the birthplace of Nikolai Dmitrievich Butorin who is the Honored Artist of Russia. He is the founder of the bone-cutting workshop of the Higher school of folk arts (academy). Also Arkhangelsk land is the birthplace of Vasily Nikolaevich Kolobov and Elizaveta Vladimirovna Levochkina who are

The works of jewelry art perfectly fit into the exhibition space; professional lighting favorably emphasized the beauty of the jewelry (fig. 5, 8).

Artistic lace weaving is represented by works in which innovative finds are vividly demonstrated: the combination and color of

materials, design features and complex, technological techniques.

Artistic embroidery demonstrates the rich possibilities of technological execution of various traditional techniques in a new solution: Russian smooth (glad') embroidery, Ivanovo stitching, gold embroidery. For example, golden petals of lilies made with metallized thread are scattered on the thinnest transparent airy tulle, mohair fluffy threads in combination with silk creep over the thinnest hand-woven mesh (fig. 4). The beauty of the compositional solution and the quality brought to perfection makes you wonder: "Is this really made by human hands?".

Catch", etc. The professionalism of the execution of each exhibit suggests lingering and considering each element for a long time. Sculptural woodcarving is considered

the most difficult because the image of a human or animal figure requires spatial thinking from the artist, the ability to feel proportions and perspective.

The central place in the exhibition is occupied by two icons made by students of the Moscow Institute of Lacquer Miniature Painting named after F.A. Modorov (fig. 7). Holy images prescribed in accordance with iconographie canons hold the center of the exhibition space and force them to return to them again; the color of the letter is unusual, the predominance of gold, ochre with the inclusion of blue and light blue tones are rare.

The results of the exhibition indicate a large attendance, excellent feedback from visitors (fig. 9), master classes for children organized by the museum staff in the exhibition space, creative meetings and the annual mass event "Night of

Museums" have given results. Videos have been prepared about the exhibition, which can be viewed on the Internet. Also a number of notes have been written.

«The exhibition gives the impression of an extraordinary boundless human imagination. It remains to be proud that creativity in various materials is still alive and is being developed in our country and this is being done by our contemporaries! I wish our museum to continue to amaze with the variety of such exhibitions. Good luck, prosperity, and happiness in life to the museum staff!

Sincerely, the artist.
