ABSTRACT:

One of the societal shifts that occurred in England was the period of time known as the Romantic period, and this article will provide you with some brief information about the emergence of the Romantic movement.

Keywords: Romantic Age, England, poets, romanticists.

INTRODUCTION

Romanticism is one of the most impactful turns in art history. It was a creative and intellectual development. It came out in Europe during the end of 18th century. Romanticists were writers, artists, or musician of the Romantic Age. In that time they were divided into two generation. Within the period from 1786 to 1830 two eras of Sentimental artists for all time influenced the nature of English dialect and writing. Usually, William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge, who wrote most of major works from 1786 to 1805, are regarded as the first generation of the English romantic poets. They are called „passive writers' and also, "Lake poets". Because there was a Lake District, which was located in the north-west of England. The Lake District attracted the poets because industry had not yet invaded this part of the country. These poets had similar tastes in art and politics, they founded a literary circle. Its influence was felt on some other writers of the time [1]. George Gordon Byron, Percy Bysshe Shelley and John Keats are three poets who wrote their most important works between 1810 and 1824. They are considered the second group of English Romantic poets and called active writers.

Findings

Drama was not very popular during the Romantic Age. During that time, most of the plays were simple. They showed poor people as good and rich people as bad. Some famous Romantic poets wrote a type of play called closet drama. A poem written for reading rather than performing on stage. Shelley's sad story "The Cenci," Byron's "Manfred," and Coleridge's "Remorse" are well-known plays of this kind [2]. Byron, Keats and Percy Shelley all wrote for the stage, but with little success in England, with Shelley's The Cenci perhaps the best work produced, though that was not

played in a public theatre in England until a century after his death. Byron's plays, along with dramatizations of his poems and Scott's novels, were much more popular on the Continent, and especially in France, and through these versions, several were turned into operas, many still performed today. If contemporary poets had little success on the stage, the period was a legendary one for performances of Shakespeare, and went some way to restoring his original texts and removing the Augustan "improvements" to them. The greatest actor of the period, Edmund Kean, restored the tragic ending to King Lear [3].

During the romantic age, people wrote stories, reviews, and books. And in this time, the best writers were Jane Austen and Sir Walter Scott. Their books were very different from each other. Jane Austen wrote during a time when Romantic literature was very popular, but she was not influenced by it. She wrote stories about everyday family problems. Austen wrote about everyday life in small towns and in the famous city Bath where people went on vacation. She thought the novel was a form of art that needed a lot of attention and precision, more than anyone since Fielding. Discipline means following rules and being in control of your actions. The stories were easy to follow and realistic, but it took a lot of work for the author to make them that way. She showed her honesty as an artist by not giving up writing and editing her novels, even when it was unlikely that they would be published. The women in Austen's books like "Pride and Prejudice" and "Emma" are famous for being independent and smart. Her books, like "Mansfield Park" (1814) and "Persuasion" (1818), sound like real life. These new books don't have as much humor and don't seem as natural. In return, they have a more intricate depiction of characters, a more clever sarcasm, and a deeper, kinder attitude towards the people in her plays. Jane Austen thought that novels were a really important form of art. In "Northanger Abbey" (1818), she made fun of scary novels, and in her own writing she also criticized them. She replaced her smartly crafted lifelike and funny scenes. She wrote letters that showed she knew what she was doing and understood her own limitations. She wanted to keep doing things her own way, even though she might not be successful again. She believed that she would fail if she tried to do things differently. Her work feels like something from a Shakespeare play because she has total control of everything in her world. Even though the world she ruled was not very big. She is seen as more like neoclassical writers from the 1700s than like Romantic writers. Even though not many people knew about her when she was alive, Austen is now one of the most beloved English writers. She played an important role in creating the modern novel.

Sir Walter Scott wrote exciting stories. He was really well-liked when he was alive and now he's known as the first person to write historical novels. He liked old

England and Scotland and wrote many books set in those places because he was interested in the past and the Romantic time period. Scott is thought to be a perfect example of the Romantic Age [4].

CONCLUSION

Many writers were active during the romantic era in England. This time started with some well-known writers, like William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge and others. It stopped with the Sir Walter Scott's death, who was the member of the second generation of English romantics.
