Summary. The article mentions the incomparable services of Afad Gurbanov, one of the outstanding representatives of our modern linguistics. The world-famous Azerbaijani linguist-scientist Afad Gurbanov's scientific creativity has been rich, multifaceted, valuable, and quite wide and comprehensive in terms of the subject area. He obtained rich facts about the important problems of linguistics and managed to conduct interesting scientific research. He was a wide ranged scientist capable of very rare faces of science. There is no field of linguistics that this productive and hard-working scientist does not penetrate. He was able to come to certain conclusions by thinking about the most important issues of educational problems, and put his ideas into the form of scientific articles.

Modern Azerbaijani linguistics did not suddenly reach its current level of development. He has gone through a complicated and difficult path. In this field, our literary and cultural figures have rendered unparalleled services. Our talented artists, poets and translators, playwrights, literary critics, historians, publicists and pedagogues, teachers were engaged in linguistic research until professional linguists were born in Azerbaijan. The emergence of linguistics as a field of science mainly coincides with the 19th century, and its formation is related to the 20th century. When talking about this period and the beginning of the 20th century, A. Bakikhanov, M. Kazymbey, M. Akhundzade, M. Sh. Vazeh, S. Valibeyov, G. Garabeyov, G. Mirzazade, M. Mahmudbeyov, F. Kocherli, A. Shaig, We would specifically mention the names of C. Mammadguluzade and others. When we talk about our modern linguistics - its prominent and worthy representatives, we should show the representatives of our science up to today that can be divided (should be divided) into several generations. Let's say that when we show the services of professor Bekir Chobanzade in the creation and formation of Azerbaijani linguistics, academician M. Shiraliyevi, who grew up in the 30s and 40s of the XX century, a corresponding member of Azerbaijan EA, prof. A.

In the ranks of our linguists after the generation represented by M. Shiraliyev, A. Demirchizade, I. Efendiyev, M. Huseynzade, A. Orujov, S. Jafarov, A. Valiyev, A. Mahmudov, A. Abdullayev, N. Mammadov from the 40s and 50s , Z. Taghizadeh and others. When talking about our linguists in the years after the 60s, we should remember that talented and productive linguists worked in this period. We would like to talk about the life and work of professor Afad Mahammad oglu, academician of international and national academies, member of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, honorary member of the Turkish Language Institute, doctor of philological sciences, who started working in those years.
Famous linguist-scientist, prominent Turkologist, talented teacher, doctor of philological sciences, Professor Afad Mahammad oglu Gurbanov devoted all his strength and skills to the development of linguistic science. He was born in 1929 in the village of Gizil Shafaq in the Kalinino region of Armenia. After finishing secondary education, A.S. in Tbilisi. After graduating from the Pushkin Pedagogical Institute in 1948, he came to Baku in 1949 and entered ADPU (former name V.I. Lenin API) and graduated from that institute in 1951 with an honors diploma. However, since he was not given a post-graduate degree, A. Gurbanov worked as a principal in Hamamli village secondary school in Georgia in 1951-1954, and in 1955, A.S. He was invited to the position of teacher at Tbilisi State Pedagogical Institute named after Pushkin.

He started scientific research and research from a young age. Afad Gurbanov entered the world of science in the 50s of the 20th century, and since 1951, by conducting regular searches, he obtained rich facts about the important problems of linguistics and managed to conduct interesting scientific research.
In the first years of his creative activity, Afad Gurbanov showed a tendency towards two scientific directions - theoretical-philological and pedagogical-methodical fields. He was able to come to certain conclusions by thinking about the most important issues of educational problems, and put his ideas into the form of scientific articles.
Afad Gurbanov's works have been published since 1956. In that year, several of his articles were published in Baku and Tbilisi. In his article "Azerbaijani personal names and their characteristics", he set himself the goal of scientifically explaining the different and interesting aspects of the anthroponyms used by Azerbaijanis living in Georgia, and he was able to achieve this. That article was the first step in the field of onomastics, which Afad Gurbanov later developed at a very high level and raised to the level of a scientific school.
More than 70 large-volume books, monographs, textbooks, textbooks, and up to 500 scientific-methodical articles on Professor Afad Gurbanov's numerous linguistic studies have been published. Some of these works were published in foreign countries, including Russia, Turkey and other countries. Afad Gurbanov's scientific activity was highly appreciated and he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Scientist of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1981.
Afad Gurbanov was one of the few linguists-scientists awarded by the state for his works. He was awarded the State prize for the monograph "Onomalogy of the Azerbaijani language".
His life since 1956 V.I. He joined the API named after Lenin. In 1958-59, he was a graduate student of the department of Azerbaijani linguistics of the institute. In addition to studying at the graduate school, he taught at the Azerbaijan Institute of Foreign Languages and other higher schools. A. Gurbanov, corresponding member of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences, professor A.M. Under Demirchizade's guidance, in 1962 he defended his candidacy on the topic "Language and style of S. Vurgu's play "Vagif", and in 1968 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the topic "Modern Azerbaijani literary language" at the Social Sciences Department of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. He was a teacher, head teacher, associate professor at the department of Azerbaijani linguistics of the institute, and since 1970 he worked as a professor.
He was elected a corresponding member of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences in 1983. In 1979, he was elected head of the Azerbaijani Linguistics Department of API. In 1961-81, he worked as the dean of the Faculty of Philology, the largest faculty of the institute. S. Sadygova recalls those years and writes: "At that time, Afad Gurbanov was the dean of the Faculty of Philology of the Azerbaijan Pedagogical Institute (API). At first glance, looking at the students with his large, dark eyes reminiscent of deep lakes, and a warm, meek, warm smile on his face, I felt that I was standing in front of a wise scientist with an intellectual-civilian fire with all his being. First of all, the professor was a pure and sincere person." (1, p. 6).
He was the rector of API in 1981-89. In 1933, he was elected a full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Creativity and an academician of the International Academy of Pedagogical Sciences.
The works of Afad Gurbanov, who deeply mastered our literary language and follows the norms of this language in all his writings and speeches, have concrete ideas, iron logic, and a true and correct main line. The ability to convey a serious scientific problem to the reader in an easy, simple, understandable, scientific language is highly developed by teacher Afad. Writing a scientific work in this style is not characteristic of every scientist.
Afad Gurbanov was a scientist with multifaceted scientific creativity covering various fields of linguistics. Its activities can be grouped in the following main areas:
1. General and Turkological linguistics;
2. Modern Azerbaijani literary language;
3. Onomalogy of the Azerbaijani language;
4. Language of artistic works;
5. Higher school pedagogy and methodology;
A number of provisions of the principles of teaching and propagation of the phonetic system of the language have found their scientific solution in the researches of A. Gurbanov, and these were published in the press and delivered to a wide readership.
The eminent scholar Afad raised the glory of our motherland and our mother tongue, so he himself rose and conquered the pinnacle of perfection of science. He was a wide ranged scientist capable of very rare faces of science. There is no field of linguistics that this productive and hardworking scientist does not penetrate.
