INTRODUCTION

So, what is the function of morphology? It presents a level of analysis separate from but interacting with phonetics (sounds), phonology (the system of sounds that make meaningful differences), syntax, semantics, discourse, pragmatics, etc. Morphology helped us recognize, describe, explain, and predict how human language is organized in meaningful chunks even within the internal structure of what we think of as "single" words.

Morphology also analyzes how words behave as parts of speech, and how they may be inflected to express grammatical categories including number, tense, and aspect. Concepts such as productivity are concerned with how speak-

ers create words in specific contexts, which evolves over the history of a language.

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

The human mind is programmed to produce hundreds and millions of words, phrases, and clauses; unlimited and unsaid ideas, and novel sentences "language creates unreal worlds and allows us to talk about non-existing things" Even a child might utter a sentence that has never said before. Yet, it is seeming impossible for a person to understand, generate, and use the function of each word because, apart from the words that a person knows and are stored in his/her mental lexicon, there might be words that have never been heard before by the same person. Language is a subject and is on a process of continuous Change Resources and Information. science, the term morphology has come to be used to refer to the branch of biology which studies the form and structure of plants and animals. Linguistically, morphology deals with morphemes and how they operate in the structure of words. Further in this regard, the term morphology consists of two word elements, morph- which means 'form' and -ology which means 'the study of. It appeared in the 19th century for the first time. It provides a level of analysis that is distinct from, but combined with, phonetics (sounds) phonology (the system of sounds that make meaningful distinctions), syntax, semantics, discourse, pragmatics, etc.

Morphology has helped us identify, describe, explain, and predict that what we humans think of as simple words are also fragmented in their internal structure.

Types of morphology

There are two types of morphological relations: inflectional and derivational. When an inflectional affix is added to a stem word, a new form of the stem word is produced. When a derivational affix is added to a stem word, a new word with new meaning is produced. Affixes, such as prefixes and suffixes, are bound morphemes, and are different from free morphemes. Free morphemes are lexical units, and when two free morphemes are put together, a compound word is produced.

Examples

The following are examples of English morphology: The following are examples of English morphology:

1. "Jumps" is composed of the stem word "jump" and inflectional suffix "-s"

2. "Unhappy" is composed of the stem word "happy" and the derivational prefix "un"

3. "Constitutional" is composed of the stem word "constitute", the inflectional noun suffix "-ion", and the inflectional adjective suffix "-al

A morphology tree is used to illustrate the workings of morphology and morphological relations.

CONCLUSION

The basic fields of linguistics broadly focus on language structure at different "scales". Morphology is considered to operate at a scale larger than phonology, which investigates the categories of speech sounds that are distinguished within a spoken language, and thus may constitute the difference between a morpheme and another. Conversely, syntax is concerned with the next-largest scale, and studies how words in turn form phrases and sentences. Morphological typology is a distinct field that categories languages based on the morphological features they exhibit.
