Introduction
Since the earliest epochs of human history, language has been the most reliable means of influencing people. Speech plays a decisive role in the expansion of a person's understanding of the world and life, the expansion of his horizons and the development of his consciousness. The history of human culture clearly shows that the service of fiction in influencing the public consciousness is unmatched. It can be seen that with the arrival of individual masters of the word in the field of literature, not only the spiritual world of peoples and nations, but also the radical change of living conditions and new ways of thinking of people. Even though the most prominent artists created their views and exhortations from the beginning, focusing on their own people and nation, over time, it can be seen that they have gone beyond national borders and become universal values. A clear example of this is the works of Tolstoy, Byron, De Balzac, Hugo, Dostoyevsky and several other writers and poets.
Turkmenistan, a nation steeped in rich history and tradition, finds a cornerstone of its cultural identity in the timeless verses of Magtymguly Pyragy. More than just a poet, Pyragy was a social reformer and a powerful advocate for peace and unity. His words, echoing across centuries, continue to resonate with the Turkmen people and serve as a guiding light for peaceful coexistence. Peace as a Cornerstone
Peace is not merely a theme in Pyragy's work; it forms the very foundation of his philosophy. He condemns war and violence, lamenting the devastation it inflicts on communities. In his poem «Dunya» (The World), Pyragy urges people to «let weapons be silenced, let peace reign,» emphasizing the importance of dialogue and understanding over brute force.
Thematic Analysis of Pyragy's Peace Views
Unity and Harmony: Pyragy's poems consistently emphasize the importance of unity among the Turkmen people. He viewed internal discord as a source of vulnerability and a barrier to progress. Poems like «Agzybirlik» (Unity) urge people to overcome differences and build a strong, unified nation.
Justice and Fairness: Peace, for Pyragy, was not merely the absence of conflict but a state built on principles of justice and fairness. In poems like «Dogrugyllyk» (Honesty), he criticizes corruption and social injustice, highlighting their disruptive impact on societal harmony.
Tolerance and Respect: Pyragy's vision for peace transcended ethnic or tribal boundaries. Poems advocate for tolerance and respect towards others, regardless of background.
Impact on Turkmen Culture
Pyragy's unwavering commitment to peace has permeated the very fabric of Turkmen culture. His poems are recited at traditional gatherings, fostering a sense of shared identity and values. Furthermore, academic conferences like the one held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan in 2023 («Humanistic views of Magtymguly Pyragy: culture as an instrument of peacemaking»)
highlight the continued relevance of his message for modern society. Conclusion
Magtymguly Pyragy's legacy extends far beyond the realm of literature. His unwavering commitment to peace and unity serves as a cornerstone of Turkmen culture, even today. By promoting harmony, justice, and tolerance, Pyragy's message continues to hold immense value not just for Turkmenistan but for the entire world, yearning for a more peaceful future. References:
