Annotation.

Young people are one of the main contributors to journal publications. It is often presented in a differentiated, fragmented and contradictory way. Information from print media forms the image of the younger generation among older age groups, youth policy bodies. Therefore, it is important to determine to what extent young people themselves agree with the image broadcast by the media, how much they identify with it.

Key words: youth, youth image, youth in the media.

In modern society, information is the main value. Information flows are constantly intensifying, the speed of data transfer is increasing, the volume of information is increasing, and its processing is accelerating. Thanks to modern media society learns about the latest news, forms its opinion concerning any events, gets acquainted with the modern way of life. Journal publications have become one of the trends of modern culture. Today there are a lot of publications of all kinds on the shelves: women's and men's, children's and youth, magazines about the world of art and economics, all kinds of catalogs and directories.

Of particular note is the fact that the media influence people's perceptions of each other. Older generations, for the most part, form their opinions about young people based on information and images in contemporary magazines. However, is this true? In addition to information about the merits and aspirations of today's youth, we can often find

stereotypes about young people's rambunctious lifestyles, unwillingness to study, and protest against the system. This affects the attitudes of other age groups, the formation of youth policy concepts and measures, and most importantly, has a decisive influence on the social identity of young people themselves. It is very important to go beyond the general problem-oriented discussion to identify what images of young people are broadcast in today's media and whether young people themselves agree with this version of themselves.

The aim of the study is to identify the images of young people, which are broadcast in the modern media, and to determine the attitude of young people themselves to these images.

To achieve the goal, a sociological study was conducted on the topic: "Representation of the image of youth in modern magazines: for or against". The respondents were young people from Belgorod region aged 15 to 34 years old, who had to answer 20 questions. The main method of collecting information was a questionnaire conducted in the form of an individual survey with a quota sampling method from the general population. The data obtained helped determine how young people themselves interact with print media and whether newspapers and magazines have a future.

The majority of respondents turn to print media several times a month. This is understandable, because most young people learn news from platforms and social networks, they read online newspapers, articles on websites, etc. Still, the number is pretty encouraging: 64.30% versus 20% who don't turn to print media at all. The print media themselves have undergone great changes over the years: newspapers used to be the main reading in the mornings and evenings in almost every Russian family. But time goes on, and the environmental laws to which young people adhere play against paper magazines and newspapers. Unfortunately, this will progress in the future. And the time is not far off when 20% will grow to 80%.

Diagram 1. Distribution of respondents' answers to the question, "How often do you turn to print media?"

According to the results of the survey, one of the most important functions performed by print media is to help

with orientation in the world of information. This was the answer of 16.4% of the respondents. Also, despite the outdated method of presentation, 23% said that thanks to print media they learn about what is happening in the world the most important political events, sports and cultural, current issues and problems of society. Journals print the latest amazing scientific information, the latest research in medicine, mechanics, astronomy, and astronautics. Keeping up with all this without depending on mobile networks and the Internet is sometimes like a breath of fresh air.

Despite the fact that young people turn to print media and modern magazines, there is a very low credibility quotient. The percentage of fake and absurd news stories only increases every year. Only 26.7% of young people unconditionally believe the information published in print sources.

Among the reasons for this distrust, 36.4% mentioned the presence of fake information, distorting reality to attract the readers' attention. Most of the news has a truthful basis, but when presented, it is distorted beyond belief and

has the opposite meaning when it reaches the readers. 37.3% said that this is a factor in distrusting the information

presented.

Quite often the media is used to influence and pressure the population. They are the means that are able to present the situation in the necessary way. Following our psychology, no matter how much we resist, this method is effective, no matter how much we deny it. But is it right? Such a question was asked to the respondents. 40% of young people in the region are categorically against the imposition of their point of view by the media. Even the Constitution of the Russian Federation stipulates the right to freedom of speech and thought. Still, our world is built on the manipulation of states and corporations over people's minds. Our entire culture is based on swings, in which certain areas of life are involved. Sometimes information about an emergency event, for example, may be distorted not for personal gain, but to avoid spreading panic among the population. And sometimes this is not a bad thing, as 14.6% of respondents agree.

Diagram 2. Distribution of respondents' answers to the question, "Do you think it is correct that the media sometimes

'impose' their point of view on people?" The topic of youth in today's magazines is touched upon quite often. Only 6.7% of young people have never

encountered articles on such topics. However, not everyone agrees with the image of youth that is broadcast in the print

media. Often young people are portrayed in a negative light and the print media themselves barely cover the actual

problems of this age group. Russian newspapers and magazines have now become an instrument of power by conveying

certain messages. It is regrettable that the Internet has long been no longer a free zone for the exchange of opinions. More

and more control is turning to youth resources.

broadcast by contemporary magazines?" Next, respondents were asked the question, "What emotions do images of young people in contemporary magazines evoke in you?" The leading answer was "Disappointment. These data correlate with the answers to the previous question, as most disapprove of the image of young people in the print media. It was noted that the actions of some young people, which are mentioned in contemporary magazines, are not so important and worthy. And those who are really worthy of attention remain in the shadows, covered only by specialized publications. One respondent noted, as his own answer,

"Hate" the image of youth that has been formed at this point in time in the press and broadcast to all of society.

magazines evoke in you?»

The next question is a qualifying one, in order to understand which characteristics of the created images of young people do not suit the real youth and cause negative emotions. The majority noted the social activity of the younger generation, which is a definite plus, but the option "Those who like a binge lifestyle" was chosen by a small margin. This is rather a stereotype formed around young people, which was confirmed by 44.7% of respondents. Many of them prioritize their studies, career, creation of a family, but only few publications write about it. There are enough abusers of one or another vice among all segments and ages of the population, but there is not so much emphasis on it. Such stereotypes are a major factor in the perception of youth by other age groups.

The way the younger generation is portrayed in the media affects perceptions in society. Employers are not always eager to hire young people, believing that there is not yet enough experience, that there are no serious intentions. And these are the results affecting only one sphere of life. In reality, young professionals are quite capable of doing technological start-ups and building empires. Naturally, the established image has a direct impact not only on the lives of young people, but also on the policies chosen for their age group, with which 53.3% of those surveyed agreed. Laws on countermeasures and penalties are passed more often than those that support young people.

Most of the young men and women noted that information from magazines does not have a decisive influence on the social identity of young people. This role is too small to say that it affects the social identity of young people themselves.

In conclusion, the study looked at possible solutions to the problematic situation. More than half of the respondents said that by eliminating stereotypes about the behavior and values of the younger generation, it would be possible to move the opinion of other age groups in a positive direction. 25% also named "emphasize the experience of successful young people" as the suggested way out, which will also give positive dynamics, and in combination with the first suggested answer will be able to fundamentally change the situation. 6.3% of the residents of our region said that control over published information is necessary. This could be one of the recommendations to solve the problem at the moment.

The image of modern boys and girls in the cultural context at the moment is vividly represented by the following

trends:

• The development of body positivity. Bodypositive is a social movement advocating the right to feel comfortable in one's body in any physical appearance, to express oneself freely, and to accept other people's bodies as they are.

• Development of LGBT Communities. The priority goals of the activists of the movement can include the possibility for representatives of non-traditional orientation to socially adapt; reduction of the level of hostility, attacks and insults against LGBT people; the possibility to have official same-sex marriages, have children; equal rights in all spheres of activity, including employment or study at a higher educational institution.

• Development of Feminism. Feminism is a social movement that seeks to expand and equalize political, economic, personal and social rights for women and to overcome sexism.

• Acceptance of all nationalities, cultures and religions. In today's world, the trend of equality of all nationalities and cultures is practiced. All nations are equal among themselves, which implies the sovereignty of their state and political formations, the existence of rights and freedom, the acceptance of national characteristics (including linguistic, cultural, religious).

Thus, the interaction between print media and young people is at a very low level. Magazines and newspapers do not keep up with the new generation, guided by stereotypes. Young people, for the most part, experience negative feelings and frustration when confronted with articles about youth. This is a serious problem because this is how perceptions are formed among other age groups, concepts and measures of youth policy are shaped. It is very important to transform the image of youth in today's magazines, which young people do not identify with.
