The landscape of academic translation teaching is undergoing a significant transformation due to the rapid integration of technology. This article explores the diverse ways technology is impacting the field. It examines the potential benefits of machine translation tools, online corpora, and collaborative platforms in enhancing student efficiency and fostering critical thinking skills. Additionally, the article addresses the challenges associated with overreliance on technology and the importance of developing information literacy skills in students. By acknowledging both the opportunities and limitations presented by technology, educators can create a dynamic learning environment that equips future translators with the necessary expertise and adaptability to navigate the ever-evolving world of language and communication.

THE EFFECTS OF TECHNOLOGY IN ACADEMIC TRANSLATION

TEACHING

Asbtract: The landscape of academic translation teaching is undergoing a significant transformation due to the rapid integration of technology. This article explores the diverse ways technology is impacting the field. It examines the potential benefits of machine translation tools, online corpora, and collaborative platforms in enhancing student efficiency and fostering critical thinking skills. Additionally, the article addresses the challenges associated with overreliance on technology and the importance of developing information literacy skills in students. By acknowledging both the opportunities and limitations presented by technology, educators can create a dynamic learning environment that equips future translators with the necessary expertise and adaptability to navigate the ever-evolving world of language and communication.

Technology is rapidly reshaping the landscape of higher education, and translation studies are no exception. From machine translation (MT) tools to online collaborative platforms, a wave of technological advancements is transforming the way translation is taught and learned. While these innovations offer exciting

possibilities, navigating their impact requires a nuanced approach that acknowledges both the potential benefits and the need for thoughtful integration.

One of the most significant effects of technology lies in its ability to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Machine translation tools, though not without limitations, can provide students with a solid foundation for their work. Imagine a student grappling with a complex legal document. An MT tool can offer an initial draft, allowing the student to focus on refining the legal terminology and ensuring a natural flow in the target language. This frees up valuable classroom time for discussions on cultural nuances and the subtle art of conveying legal weight and intent across languages. Here, the instructor can guide students in critically evaluating the MT output, identifying areas for improvement, and ultimately fostering a deeper understanding of the legal concepts and the importance of precise translation.

Furthermore, technology fosters a more learner-centered approach to translation pedagogy. Online corpora, vast databases of textual data, allow students to immerse themselves in authentic language use across various domains. By analyzing real-world examples of legal documents, marketing materials, or literary works, they can develop a deeper understanding of context and register, crucial skills for professional translators. Additionally, collaborative platforms facilitate peer review and feedback exchange, fostering a sense of community and encouraging students to learn from each other's strengths and weaknesses. Imagine a student solely reliant on MT to translate a poem - the nuances of metaphor, rhythm, and rhyme might be lost in the machine translation, leaving the student ill-equipped to capture the essence of the literary work. Here, the instructor plays a crucial role in guiding students towards a deeper understanding of the source text, encouraging them to analyze the author's intent and explore creative solutions to convey that intent effectively in the target language.

Furthermore, the abundance of online resources can be overwhelming. Without proper guidance, students might get lost in a sea of information, struggling to identify credible sources and discern high-quality translations from subpar ones. Here, the role of the instructor becomes paramount. Instructors need to equip students with the information literacy skills necessary to navigate the digital landscape effectively. This can involve workshops on evaluating online sources, discussions on the ethics of machine translation, and guidance on selecting appropriate corpora for different translation tasks.

The key to harnessing the power of technology lies in thoughtful integration. Technology should not replace human expertise; it should augment it. By strategically incorporating MT tools, online resources, and collaborative platforms into the curriculum, educators can create a dynamic learning environment that fosters both proficiency and critical thinking skills. Technology can also open doors to new avenues of learning. Virtual reality simulations can immerse students in realistic scenarios, allowing them to practice translation in real-time, on-the-ground settings. Imagine a student translating for a humanitarian aid mission in a disaster zone - VR can provide a simulated experience, helping them prepare for the urgency, emotional weight, and cultural sensitivities they might encounter.

In conclusion, technology is not a disruptive force to be resisted in translation teaching; it's a powerful tool to be embraced. By acknowledging its

potential benefits and limitations, educators can create a technology-infused learning environment that empowers students to become not just adept translators, but also critical thinkers and problem-solvers, well-equipped for the ever-evolving world of language and communication. This requires a commitment to continuous learning and innovation on the part of educators, ensuring they stay abreast of the latest technological advancements and can leverage them to create a truly enriching and effective learning experience for their students. As the symphony of human expertise and technological innovation plays out in translation classrooms, the future of translation education promises to be one of both efficiency and profound cultural understanding.

Аннотация: Ландшафт преподавания академического перевода претерпевает значительные изменения в связи с быстрой интеграцией технологий. В этой статье исследуются различные способы влияния технологий на эту сферу. В нем рассматриваются потенциальные преимущества инструментов машинного перевода, онлайн-корпусов и платформ для совместной работы в повышении эффективности учащихся и развитии навыков критического мышления. Кроме того, в статье рассматриваются проблемы, связанные с чрезмерной зависимостью от технологий и важностью развития навыков информационной грамотности у студентов. Признавая как возможности, так и ограничения, предоставляемые технологиями, преподаватели могут создать динамичную среду обучения, которая снабдит будущих переводчиков необходимым опытом и способностью к адаптации, чтобы ориентироваться в постоянно развивающемся мире языка и коммуникации.
