Key words: proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS), physical therapy (PT).

Research Relevance: subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS) is a common orthopaedic pathology which makes up to 65% of all shoulder issues. Selecting the correct treatment can be challenging and involves multiple factors. The main consequences of this pathology are: pain, restriction of movements, a decrease in overall muscle strength and endurance. This leads to a sharp violation of the patient's ability to work for a long period of time at work and at home.[1,2,3]

Objectives: to develop program of physical therapy (PT) for patients with SIS, based on the principles and basic procedures of PNF which improve range of motion, pain level and function of shoulder joint.

Materials and Methods: one group of patients with SIS consisted of 6 men and 6 women 4455 years old who underwent the program of PT based on PNF principles and procedures which lasted for 2 month. Measurement of function, pain and amplitude was made via shoulder pain and disability index SPADI, visual analogue scale and goniometer.

Results: the amplitude of abduction in the shoulder joint according to the results of goniometry improved by 48% from 110.91 ± 3.33 to 163.5 ± 2.00 (P=0.05); the level of pain on a visual analogue scale decreased by 67.8% from 6.58 ± 0.25 to 2.25 ± 0.33 points (P=0.05); the index of pain and function of the upper limb decreased by 66.2% from 70.58 ± 2.25 to 23.83 ± 2.33 points (P = 0.05).

Conclusion: the effectiveness of the PT program to improve the function of the injured limb and the level of pain in adults with the impingement syndrome of the shoulder joint is confirmed by the obtained quantitative indicators. References
