The Orbis pictus or the Visible World written by J. A. Comenius is one of the most important illustrated schoolbooks in the history of education. Its first edition was published in 1658 in Nuremberg in the Latin and German languages with woodcut pictures. The Orbis pictus was translated into several languages and used as a schoolbook up to the 19th century. One of the most important parts of the Orbis pictus of J. A. Comenius was the so called "lively and vocal Alphabet" (alphabetum vivum et vocale). It is accepted in the literature that its purpose was to make the process of teaching and learning of reading easier for both teachers and pupils thanks to the phonetic method of ABC-learning. However, as in the researches results presented in the article, short sentences in the "vocal Alphabet" belong to the so called "voces variae animantium"-tradition, with its origins already in the Antiquity (Varro, Suetonius, Polemius Silvius etc.), as well as in the Middle Ages (Aldhelm of Malmesbury, Papias, Carmina Burana, Vincent of Beauvais etc.) and in the early Modern Times (Jacob Grüßbeutel, Georg Ph. Harsdörffer, Hadrian Junius, Peter Apherdianus etc.). The "didactic movement" (die didaktische Bewegung Wolfgang Ratke and followers), the Hartlib's millieu, as well as Comenius' friends (Jan Jonston) and collaborator (Cyprian Kinner, author of the unpublished "Libellum lectorium" 1644) played a great role in shaping Comenius' educational ideas and the final form of the "Orbis sensualium pictus" (1658). В этом номере в рубрику «Научное зарубежье» включена статья Адама Фиялковского, профессора Варшавского университета, заведующего кафедрой гуманитарных основ педагогики, руководителя Лаборатории истории образования и воспитания, доктора педагогических наук. Ян Амос Коменский, изучению наследия которого посвятил многие годы жизни А. Фиялковский, является фигурой, во многом предопределившей развитие западной педагогической традиции. Неизменный интерес исследователей к Я. А. Коменскому обусловлен тем, что его сочинения ценны не только глубиной содержания, но и силой влияния, которое они оказали на педагогическую теорию и практику. Одним из таковых является учебник «Orbis sensualium pictus», выдержавший большое количество изданий на разных языках и сохранивший за собой статус одного из самых значимых и популярных учебников в истории учебной литературы.

Часто в историко-педагогических трудах фигура того или иного классика предстает вне исторического контекста и педагогической традиции. В таком случае оценка его заслуг и вклада приобретает подчас фантастические и мифологические черты. Преодолению такого внеисторического подхода к историческому лицу и его реальному наследию посвящены многие работы Адама Фиялковского, детально анализирующего «Orbis pictus», включая комментированный перевод на польский его первого латинско-немецкого издания 1658 года (2015), докторскую диссертацию

(2012) и публикуемую статью*. Автор предлагает историко-генетиче-скую реконструкцию фрагмента учебного пособия Я. А. Коменского, помогающего начальному усвоению звуков и букв. Статья представляет интерес как для специалистов в области дидактики, истории и философии образования, так и для всех интересующихся особенностями развития западноевропейской педагогической культуры.
