К ПРОБЛЕМЕ ПОЭТИЧЕСКИХ КЛИШЕ: УСТОЙЧИВАЯ СЕМАНТИКА АТРИБУТИВНЫХ СОЧЕТАНИЙ С 'EYE' В АНГЛИЙСКОЙ ПОЭЗИИ XVI, XVII И XIX ВВ.

Аннотация. В представленной статье рассматриваются устойчивые смысловые компоненты английских поэтических атрибутивных сочетаний с eye в XVI, XVII и XIX вв. Автор считает возможным использование Тезауруса Роже для формализованной семантической классификации лексики корпуса поэтических текстов. В статье описываются семантические константы выделенных атрибутивных сочетаний с eye, на основании количественных данных анализа делаются выводы об их продуктивности и диахронической устойчивости. Используя смысловую константу словосочетания, автор выявляет элементы формуль-ности стиха.

TO THE PROBLEM OF POETIC CLICHES: SEMANTIC CONSTANTS IN ATTRIBUTIVE CONSTRUCTIONS WITH 'EYE' IN THE ENGLISH POETRY OF THE XVI, XVII AND XIX CENTURIES

Abstract. The article deals with constant semantic components of attributive word combinations in the English poetry of the XVI, XVII and XIX centuries. The author sees fit to use Roget's Thesaurus to formalize semantic classification of the vocabulary of a poetic text corpus. The paper contains the description of some semantic constants of the selected attributive combinations; using quantitative data the author makes conclusions about their productivity and diachronic stability. Starting with a semantic constant of attributive word combination the author identifies elements of poetic formulaic constructions.

Для поэзии характерна устойчивость элементов. Известно, что не только в народной, но и в авторской поэзии существуют общие, повторяющиеся элементы, такие как «поэтические формулы» [36, с. 94], «инварианты устойчивой

группы образов» [39, с. 47], «общие места» и «устоявшиеся поэтизмы» [40], «ритмико-лексико-синтаксиче-ские клише» [37, с. 202-225], "rhythmical-grammatical-lexical formulas" [43, p. 127]. Признано, что именно «общие места» являются нейтральными элементами поэтической речи [42, p. 181; 9, p. 45], составляют «литературную структуру» поэтического текста [45, p. 417, 418]. Индивидуально-стилистические особенности становятся видны лишь на фоне элементов традиции [40, с. 203]; использование поэтами готовых блоков (словосочетаний, ритми-ко-синтаксических клише и т. п.) так же естественно, как использование готовых слов языка [37, с. 223].
Несмотря на признание важной роли клише и формульных элементов поэтической речи, методики исследования в данной области не разработаны. На английском материале единственной работой такого рода является статья М. Тарлинской, в которой формульные элементы выявляются в авторской поэзии на основании позиционной, ритмической и синтаксической закреплённости слова (ритмико-грамматико-лексиче-ские клише) [43]. Тот же принцип используется М.Л. Гаспаровым в выявлении ритмико-синтаксических клише в русском четырёхстопном ямбе [37, с. 202-225].
Помимо ритмической и синтаксической закреплённости слова, на формульность элемента речи в поэзии может указывать и семантическая однотипность словосочетаний. Выявление устойчивого компонента значения сочетания с заданным словом в заданном корпусе текстов может осуществляться путём формализован-
ной семантической группировки лексики при помощи идеографического словаря. В качестве ключевого слова для описания устойчивой семантики синтаксической связи может быть выбрано любое частотное слово. В нашем исследовании в качестве ключевого слова выбрано существительное eye, частотность которого в английской поэзии разных эпох подтверждается данными конкордансов поэтов и исследованием Дж. Майлз [41].
Текстовые отрезки, содержащие лексему eye с эпитетом, были выделены методом сплошной выборки в текстах Дж. Донна (5250 строк), Э. Спенсера (4246), У Шекспира (2156), Ф. Сидни (1176), Т. Уайетта (848), Т. Лод-жа (560), Т. Уотсона (840), А. Поупа (6197), Дж. Драйдена (3402), У Каупера (7314), А. Марвелла (3629), Т. Грея (1421), Дж. Уилмота (1490), Дж. Байрона (1968), Дж. Китса (2377), В. Вор-дсворта (6384), С.Т. Кольриджа (6090) и П. Шелли (15944). Отобранный материал представляет три поэтические эпохи: английское Возрождение, Классицизм и Романтизм - 143, 172 и 197 словосочетаний соответственно.
Формализация процедуры семантической классификации адъективных компонентов атрибутивных сочетаний eye и количественный подсчёт позволили сопоставить продуктивность и диахроническую устойчивость выявленных повторяющихся компонентов смысла. На основании «Тезауруса» Роже [46] (впервые использованного для анализа поэтического текста С.И. Гиндиным [38]) выявленные прилагательные распределились по семантическим категориям, подкатегориям и группам, соответствующим иерархической структуре словаря. Эти катего-
рии и группы отражают характеристики образа глаз / глаза, типичные для английской поэзии рассматриваемых эпох.
Количественное сравнение позволяет говорить о наибольшей продуктивности и диахронической устойчивости органических, волевых, эмоциональных и интеллектуальных ассоциаций глаз / глаза: в таблице 1 представлено процентное отношение слов каждой семантической категории к общему числу атрибутивных сочетаний Аф'Айг+Еуе в указанную эпоху. Наиболее частотной во все рассмотренные периоды оказалась харак-
теристика глаз с точки зрения личных эмоций и органических материальных свойств, особенно таких, как влажность и свет / свечение. «Интеллектуальные» характеристики глаз, согласно словарю, наиболее часто и устойчиво объединяются в категорию Results of Reasoning, в которой выделяются две смысловые группы: "Error" (wandering [D1, Gr, Cw, Dr, Marv], unsound [Sp], misguided [Cw], beguiled [W]) и "Intelligence" (bright [Sh, Sp, Wilm, C, K, B, S], sun-bright [Wat], quick [Sh], watchful [D, Cw, Gr, W], forward [Gr], quick [P], judicious [Marv], experienced [W]).

Прилагательные словарной категории Volition в сочетаниях указанной модели наиболее часто объединены оценочными значениями "Goodness" (fair [Sh, Lod, Sid, Sp, Wy, Marv, Dr, W, K, C], faire [Wat], faie [Sp], faire [Sp], fayre [Sp], heavenly [Sid], delicious [Lod], glorious [Sid], good [D], pure [Marv], propitious [Marv], favourable [Cw], lovely [K], glorious [B]) и "Badness" (corrupt [Sh], corruptible [Sp], battered [Sid], sinful [Sp], aching [Cw], vulgar [B]). Устойчивость обеих характеристик со временем ослабевает. В характеристиках глаз повторяются также значения активности и пассивности.
Однако наиболее продуктивны во все рассмотренные периоды эмоционально окрашенные характеристики глаз. Здесь доминируют значения "Excitation" (burning [Sh], inflaming [D], thrilling [Sp], eager [Sh, Cw, C], mad [Sh], awefull [Sid], curious [Sp], dazled [Wat], raptured [W], wild [S, B], frenzied [C]), "Joy" и "Cheerfulness" (delighted [P], happy [Marv, W], raptured [W], ravished [C], cheerful [C, K], laughing [C], smiling [C], sprightly [P], bright [Sh, Sp, Wilm, C, K, B, S], sunne-bright [Wat], beamy [Sid, S], beaming [Cw], lustre-beaming [Cw],
radiant [D, Sp, S], sparkling [Cw, K, B], uplifted [W]), "Suffering" и "Dejection" (sad [Sp, Wy, Gr, C], troubled [Lod], suff'ring [P], aching [Cw, C], tormenting [Marv], haggard [Cw, Gr, C], sorrowing [S], dark [Sh, S, C], dull [Gr], weeping [Marv], watred [Wy], watery [Cw], tearful [C], tear-glazed [W], swollen [Marv], pensive [B], wistful [C], longing [C], beamless [S, W], downcast [K, C], anxious [K, C], drooping [S]). Из приведённых списков видно, что в поэзии указанных исторических периодов устойчива не только семантика, но и лексика атрибутивных связей eye.
Рамки данной статьи позволяют лишь бегло отметить диахронически изменчивые характеристики образа глаз: «моральные» качества, часто выражаемые или приписываемые глазам в эпоху Возрождения, позднее упоминаются значительно реже, то же происходит с «органическими» и «количественными» характеристиками.
В целом же, как выяснилось, семантические повторы в словосочетаниях AdjAttr+Eye в английской авторской поэзии высокочастотны и составляют в XVI в. 88%, XVII в. - 76% и XIX в. -81%.
Семантический анализ лексики, окружающей рассмотренные атрибутивные сочетания в пределах 1-3 строк, позволяет и здесь выделить повторяющиеся элементы. Например, ближайший контекст сочетаний eye с прилагательным с семой light у разных авторов содержит, кроме ожидаемых слов со значениями love, heart, joy и warmth, ещё целый ряд повторяющихся семантических компонентов. Например, как в эпоху Возрождения, так и в период Романтизма ясные / лучистые глаза устойчиво упоминаются рядом с небесным светилом - луной или солнцем: "Whose fair skin, beamy eyes, like morning sun on snow" [26, p. 9]; "Whilst I stood gazing on her sunne-bright eien" [31, p. 11]; "<...> but should the sun/Withdraw himself to see his rays outdone/By your bright eyes" [33, p. 9596]; "Tipt round with silver from the sun's bright eyes" [12, p. 50]; "And her fayre eyes, like stars that dimmed were" [30, p. 581]; "Two starry eyes, hung in the gloom of thought" [25, p. 490].
Интересной представляется устойчивая контекстуальная связь образа ясных / светящихся / горящих глаз с семой власти: "More then most fair, full of the living fire / no eyes buy joys, in which all powers conspire" [29, p. 563]; "<...> his burning eye, / His eye commends the leading to his hand" [22, p. 1211]; "<...> reads with sparkling eyes, / Her title to a treasure in the skies" [8, p. 328, 329]; "An eye more bright than theirs. / Gilding the object whereupon it gazeth" [23, p. 1227]; "With lustre-beaming eye, / A train, attendant on their queen" [4, p. 70, 71]; "Could you, though luminous your eye, / By looking on the bud descry, / Or guess with a prophetic power" [5, p. 69-71]; "<...> his bold
bright eye / Compels the maiden's love-confessing sigh" [1, p. 339].
Интересна также устойчивая связь образа ясных / светлых / светящихся глаз с угрозой или болью: "Ah! how can those fair eyes endure / To give the wounds they will not cure?" [11, p. 12, 13]; "<...> the bitter balefull smart, / which her fair eyes unwares do work in me: / that death out of their shiny beams do dart" [29, p. 566]; "Fair eyes, who asks more heat than comes from hence, / He in a fever wishes pestilence" [19, p. 67]; "Like her fair Eyes the day was fair; / But scorching like his am'rous Care" [19, p. 5-6]; "That welnigh burnt loves party coloured wings, / Whilst I stood gazing on her sunne-bright eien" [31, p. 10, 11]; "For when I view my loues faire eies reflecting, / I entertaine dispaire, vaine hope rejecting" [32, p. 13, 14]; "<...> bright gleams that dart along and glare / From his clear eyes" [20, c. 884, 885]; "Beware! Beware! His flashing eyes, his floating hair!" [2, p. 297]; "With the keen threat-enings of that fulgent eye" [34, p. 7].
Как видим, в перечисленных случаях можно говорить не только о поэтической устойчивости самой характеристики образа глаза / глаз, но и о существовании более сложных ассоциативных комплексов или семантических блоков, являющихся устойчивыми атрибутами языка английской поэзии.
Помимо контекстуальных смысловых ореолов семантическая классификация прилагательных в конструкциях AdjAttr+Eye позволила выявить в текстах указанных авторов и ряд формульных конструкций. Среди них можно выделить семантико-синтак-сическое клише, образованное параллелизмом AdjAttr (Light)+N(Eye) - AdjAttr+N(Part of Body). Такое смыс-

ловое и структурное сходство наблюдается, например, в конструкциях вну-тристрочного параллелизма:
"With lips that tremble, and with glistening eye" [14, p. 14];
"With lightning eyes, and eager breath, and feet" [25, p. 41];
"With any west these radiant eyes, with any north / this heart" [9, p. 11];
"Her beamy bending eyes, her parted lips" [25, p. 40];
"His flashing eyes, his floating hair!" [2, p. 298];
"And rubbing of white hands, and sparkling eyes" [16, p. 32];
"Nor thy soft hands, sweet lips, and crystal eye" [24, p. 1201];
"Fair eyes, sweet lips, dear heart, that foolish I" [27, p. 1];
"In Magdalen's loose hair and lifted eye" [21, p. 12];
"O'er the fair front and radiant eyes of Day" [25, p. 43].
Формульность также создаёт позиционная закреплённость атрибутивных словосочетаний с семантикой AdjAttr(Light)+Eye за первой стопой пятистопного ямба. Такие формульные начала строк встречаются в лирике XVI в., где в обращении к «ясным глазам» в ближайшем контексте часто встречается местоимение you:
"Fair eyes, the mirror of my mazed heart, / what wondrous virtue is contained in you" [29, p. 563];
"Fair eyes, whilst fearful I your fair admire" [17, p. 1];
"Fair eyes, sweet lips, dear heart, that foolish I / Could hope by Cupid's help on you to prey" [27, p. 1];
"Fair eyes, who asks more heat than comes from hence" [10, p. 67].
Диахронически неизменное тяготение таких словосочетаний ^ второй
стопе пятистопного ямба также создаёт элемент формульности:
"From thy bright eyes unusual brightness shed" [15, p. 23];
"From his clear eyes, yet these too dark with care" [20, p. 885];
"To two fair eyes to show a naked heart" [18, p. 2];
"on those fair eyes my love's immortal light" [29, p. 565];
"By your bright eyes, they would supply the morn" [33, p. 96];
"Of his fair eyes run liquid through their soul" [13, p. 100];
"which her fair eyes unwares do work in me" [29, p. 566];
"When your fair eyes these fearful lines shall read" [28, p. 593];
"While his fair eyes, that swam with undropped tears" [3, p. 267];
"Oh then, fair eyes, whose light I live to view" [17, p. 11];
"And her fayre eyes, like stars that dimmed were" [30, p. 597];
"Their bright, bright eyes, their eyes both bright and full" [3, p. 266].
Для поэзии всех трёх указанных периодов характерно также тяготение атрибутивных сочетаний с данной семантикой к последней стопе пятистопного ямба:
"But thou contracted to thine own bright eyes" [23, p. 1225];
"Tipt round with silver from the sun's bright eyes" [12, p. 50];
"There lives more life in one of your fair eyes" [23, p. 1235];
"Avising the bright beams of these fair eyes" [35, p. 1];
"even so my heart, that wont on your fair eye" [29, p. 574];
"In every flash of his far beaming eye" [7, p. 602];
"With the keen threatenings of that fulgent eye" [34, p. 7];

Выявленные устойчивые семантические комплексы и формульные конструкции ещё раз подтверждают мысль М.Л. Гаспарова и М. Тарлин-ской о том, что мышление готовыми блоками характерно и для великих поэтов [43, p. 127; 37, с. 222-223]. Однако сила таланта и творческая индивидуальность позволяют поэту из ограниченного набора общих традиционных
элементов создавать уникальные поэтические произведения.
Для филолога семантическая классификация лексико-синтагматических связей в корпусе текстов может, как мы убедились, служить начальным этапом выявления различных видов поэтических клише, начиная с устойчивых словосочетаний и традиционных поэтических ассоциаций направления, жанра, эпохи и т. д. и заканчивая разнообразными поэтическими структурно-семантическими клише и когнитивными константами.
