Abstract. This article explains how to use Sibelius software to create vocal notes. Readers will learn about the program's various tools and features that allow musicians and composers to create unique vocal compositions. The days when musicians cut out their vocal notes by hand are long gone. With modern music software technologies such as Sibelius, composers and musicians have gained enormous power and freedom in creating vocal music.

Introduction. Sibelius is software for creating notation and arranging music. Because of its extensive functionality, Sibelius has become one of the most popular applications for musicians working with music graphics. It is a powerful tool in the creative hands of a composer, allowing the creation of complex and beautiful vocal compositions.
There are a few key points to know when creating vocal notes in Sibelius:
Use the "Cross Staff" tool to transfer the vocal part from the main line to voice notation. This will ensure that the voice part is displayed in the correct note and range.
Use the "Lyric Text" tool to add words to the notes. Simply click on a note and enter the lyric line text to appear above it.
Don't forget about accents and intonations. Sibelius offers a wide range of expression and dynamic markers to accentuate vocal notes.
Use automatic note alignment and layout to keep your notation neat and readable. Sibelius automatically arranges notes to create a natural flow for your vocal line.
Experiment with Sibelius's ability to create multi-voice arrangements. You can add additional vocals using the "Add Individual Voice" tool to create a rich, harmonious sound.
With Sibelius, musicians can bring their musical ideas to life on paper and create professional-sounding vocal accompaniments. Sibelius's variety of tools and features allows composers and musicians to create complex and unique vocal compositions.
Sibelius is constantly being updated and developed, offering new tools and features to help you create more accurate and original vocal notation. Feel free to experiment with new instruments and approaches to create your own musical masterpieces and amaze listeners with your vocal compositions.
Sibelius comes with several sample scores to demonstrate the various features of the program. You can modify them as you wish, as the original scores located on the DVD installation disc will remain unchanged. Now let's open one of these scores.
Select the Recent tab in the Quick Start dialog box and click Project 1, and then click Open.
Alternatively, you can open the file the old way: use the command File ► Open (keyboard shortcut Ctrl+O or). The standard Open dialog box appears.
On a Windows system, you will find that the program is located in a folder called Scores, within which there is also a subfolder called Sibelius Score Examples. Double-click on it, then go to the Project Files folder, select the score called Project 1, and then click Open. This is an arrangement of a classic ballad called Scarborough Fair.
Even from the outside, when Sibelius is not running, you can open the score: just find the file on your computer and double-click to open it in Sibelius (this will automatically launch the program if you haven't already launched it yourself).
Main part. This article describes the experience of conducting the initial stage of conducting classes at a pedagogical university using the Sibelius 7.5 program. We limited ourselves to some forms, methods and conditions for organizing this work:
- in the context of individual conducting classes, organize seminar classes for students and a teacher with the participation of a full-time accompanist for the purpose of testing and using the Sibelius 7.5 music editor by the student for subsequent study of the score as part of homework;
- conduct pedagogical observation to determine the effectiveness and feasibility of using the Sibelius 7.5 editor in the process of mastering the choral score;
- develop technical specifications for the implementation of information technology in the conducting class using Sibelius 7.5 as an example;
- using interviewing, to identify students' attitudes towards the use of information technology in the educational process.
Technical equipment: laptop, speakers, screen, projector.
Initially, the experiment participants were shown some of the capabilities of the Sibelius 7.5 notator:
1. program launch process;
2. arrangement and functions of floating panels:
- playback, mixer, navigator, sound library;
- ways of typing notes;
- additional tools: reference points (beats), metronome; Score display options (landscape, portrait, panoramic orientation), etc.
Then it was proposed to apply the acquired knowledge in practice: conduct, while simultaneously looking at the screen displaying the score, and, while listening to the sound, use a computer to adjust your gesture in accordance with the author's instructions, tempo and character of the sound; try to control individual parts, sing along with parts taken out of the sound.
During the experiment, the seminar form of classes alternated with individual ones: each student was asked to conduct and simultaneously sing his part. Thanks to such work, not only does harmonic hearing develop, but also, in the words of S.G. Shebanov, "... the ability to analyze a vocal-choral score and substantiate cause-and-effect relationships in the process of constructing a musical image of a work is improved...".
At the end of the first lessons of the experimental work, an interview was conducted, the purpose of which was to determine the students' attitude towards the use of the Sibelius 7.5 music editor in the classroom. Students noted that working with the Sibelius notator is difficult due to the lack of experience, but it is useful for future practical activities as a music teacher, since the music editor allows you to develop the skills of a performer: the ability to keep up with the tempo
and perform a piece "from sight." The Sibelius 7.5 music editor also allows you to listen to the closest sounding texture of the score of the entire ensemble - how it would sound with a choir, which greatly facilitates the process of mastering music, and the ability to see the notes in front of you develops musical memory and hearing. In addition, the use of this software product develops attention and mobility.
Interviews and conversations with students show how their interest in the use of information technologies and positive motivation grow during the experiment. An important result of the experiment was the subsequent use by students of the Sibelius notator in the conditions of home independent work on the holistic study of an ensemble piece of music:
a) programming ensemble sound using a special sound library;
b) more accurate reading of the author's instructions and remarks;
c) gaining experience of the most realistic sound of the ensemble both in a cappella works and with piano accompaniment;
d) the ability to learn the score by listening to the voice parts (controlling volume, instrument timbres, turning on or off individual voices, setting the required balance between instruments);
e) capturing the overall form of the piece by changing the tempo and repeatedly playing Sibelius 7.5 music, as well as working on the details.
All these capabilities of Sibelius 7.5 indicate that the music editor in question can rightfully be classified as a modern information-praxeological environment (L. Yu. Monakhova), which helps to effectively organize the cognitive activities of students.
Conclusion. An important result is the ability to predict errors and difficulties in independent work on the studied score, as well as publish the studied scores on the social network vkontakte.ru and YouTube video hosting, which helps the foreign and Russian student community gain open access to educational materials on which novice musicians can hone their professional skill.
At the same time, the experience of introducing the Sibelius 7.5 music editor into the student training system revealed the following problem: there is a need to develop material and technical support, adequate conditions that help carry out teaching activities in the most productive way. In addition to the traditional mandatory requirements:
- musical instrument;
- music library with recordings of choral works;
- audio and video equipment, music stands, mirrors, stands for the conductor, the presence of an accompanist - it is required to equip the audience with a desktop computer or laptop that meets modern hardware and technical requirements.
This is the current version of the Sibelius program, acoustic monitors of at least 20 W, a stationary screen, a projector, a video camera, an electronic library of educational material created in Sibelius, as well as samples of the studied works performed by leading orchestras and choirs (audio, video). If these requirements are implemented, you can not only save time on preparing for a conducting lesson, but also modernize the process of professional training for a future music teacher.
