ABSTRACT
The article is about analyzing a story. And to identify the lexical and syntactic patterns in it and to find out what role they play. And this article also includes different syntactic examples and expressive meanings.

INTRODUCTION: John Henry Lanchester s story "Reality" uses many aspects of literary style. And made this work even more meaningful. Examples of lexical and syntactic analysis in the work increased the impact of the work. And the author used many stylistic devices.
ANALYSIS AND RESULTS: ""She padded across it and surveyed the unbranded but obviously fancy modern toiletries. Fine".
In this extract, separated by a secondary level such as fine help to create emotiveness through detached constructions.
"For today, and maybe for today only, she was the sole and only and exclusive star".
In the sentence author uses repetition (today... today) and (only... only) and also uses repetition of "and" this create polysyndeton. And author likening her to exclusive star this helps to create metaphor and enhance impressive.
"She opened it and studied it and performed complex calculations about how to play this, about what the audience would want and how to give it to them while acting as if she wasn't thinking about them and their reactions".
In the given example, author uses polysyndeton, parallel construction, repetition and simile. Here, "and" is used many and this create polysyndeton. Besides, "opened", "studied" and "performed" help to create parallel construction. And he uses repition of how to and this shows emotiveness. And he uses simile by likening acting to not thinking about them.
"If she spent twenty minutes here and then came out looking like she 'd just thrown some stuff on, the extended deliberation would contradict the intended effect".
In the above mentioned example, author uses simile and this helps to emotive atmosphere.

In this example, author uses litotes. This makes two negative words create positive meaning. And this influences meaning in the sentence.
"She went out, dipped a hand in the warm water, walked around, felt the colossal fluffy towels in the pool room".
In the example author uses parallel construction. And this enhance emotiveness.
"She must think of it as one day at a time. She must look composed, sexy, self-contained; mustn't look needy and impatient for the others to arrive; must look like someone who can look after herself. In this sentence, author uses simile. Also this encreases emotional situation.
"Maybe it would be all girls, carefully calibrated to be different, like a manufactured pop group". Additionally, in given example, author uses simile. This provides to enhance influence.
"Very different. Now it was time for Operation Nice. Well, that was no problem. Iona knew how to do nice".
In this sentence, author uses detached construction by using to separate secondary level part.
"It was indeed very well stocked, which was a good sign because it meant the others were coming and were probably coming pretty soon ". In given example, author uses repetition.
"Iona had screamed when she saw Nousche and squeaked when she saw Harry, but honestly, when she saw Eli, she almost fainted".
In this above sentence, author uses repetition by repeating "when she saw". This helps to enhance influence and shows situation.
"He was so far past handsome it was like they needed some other whole vocabulary for it".
In this extract, author imitates he was handsome to they needed some other whole vocabulary for it. This helps to create simile. And this make reader feel emotional situation.
"I doubt that's often true,' said Liam, giving her a private smile. Iona knew enough about players to know how it works: you flatter the clever ones for being pretty and the pretty ones for being clever".
Additionally, In the above mentioned example, author uses zeugma by using of the word in a figurative sense, not in its own sense. And this helps create odd meaning and influence sensitivity. "clever ones for being pretty and the pretty ones for being clever is used "repetition syntactical patterns, but it has a reversed order in one of the utterance. And this help create Chiasmus and this enhance impressive and emotiveness.
"Nousche looked as if she might be about to burst into tears".
In this extract, author uses simile. This describes beautiful emotion situation.

Conclusion: According to the examples of text given, each literary style used by the author further enhanced the effectiveness of the work. Especially chiasmus, zeugma, simile, and e.tc, which made the story more appealing and impressive. And made the reader feel the situation.
