This year Krasnodar institute of physical culture celebrates its 45th anniversary since its foundation on the basis of the resolution of the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 32 of December 31, 1969. In 1993 it was transformed into Kuban state academy of physical education, and in 2003 - into Kuban state university of physical education, sport and tourism (KSUPhEST). Being one of the leaders of the Russian branch "Physical culture and sport" in the context of training of highly skilled professional personnel, the university is rightly considered as a leading higher professional educational institution in the Southern federal district. During all the years of its existence the faculty, students, postgraduate students and staff of the university have succeeded in the improvement of the training process, research, sports work and other trends of professional activity. The names of its graduates are known far outside Kuban and the Russian Federation, including glorified Olympians: Andrey Lavrov (handball), brothers Anatoly and Sergey Beloglazov (free-style wrestling), Evgeny Lipeev (modern pentathlon), Oleg Khodkov, Igor Chumak, Eduard Koksharov, Dmitry Filippov (handball), Shamil' Sabirov (boxing), Irina Karavaeva and Alexander Moskalenko (trampolining), Lyudmila Chernova (track and field athletics), Murat Kardanov (Greco-Roman wrestling).

During the five years that have passed since its 40th anniversary, the university has been developing dynamically. So we can look forward with optimism.

The university administration pays considerable attention to improvement of the training process of highly skilled specialists in physical culture and sport. They are being trained in seven integrated groups of specialities (specializations), including twenty five educational programs of higher and three programs of secondary professional education, as well as programs for postgraduate and additional education.

The optimum structure of training in physical culture and sport has been developed at the university for the last five years. Vocational training at all levels (secondary professional, higher

professional education - bachelor's course, specialist programme, master's course, training of elite staff on the basis of postgraduate and doctoral courses) and additional education (on the basis of professional development and personnel retraining faculty) are being implemented in the university. Students are being trained in twenty sports specialization groups: including sixty five sports, among them thirty eight are Olympic ones. Curricula for secondary professional and higher education on the specialities "Physical Education", "Adaptive Physical Culture", "Tourism" are being integrated in the university. Graduates of Humanitarian college and the Olympic reserve school included in the organizational structure of the university, have an opportunity to be trained according to the reduced programs of higher education, combining educational and sports activities.

More than 200 PhDs and doctors of science, 9 honoured workers of physical culture of Russia; 16 honoured workers of higher education; 11 honoured trainers of the USSR, Russia; 2 masters of sports of the international class; 32 masters of sports of the USSR, Russia; 8 high achievers of physical culture and sport are involved in the training process.

High quality training of specialists in the field of physical culture and sport is provided by modern educational facilities and resources of the university, including over 100 lecture rooms, 17 computer classes, academic building for track and field athletics, sports complex with two pools and six gyms, rowing and sailing bases, library with a reading room with wireless Internet connection (Wi-Fi), assembly hall, dining room, two halls of residence, recreation center in the Betta settlement of the resort town of Gelendzhik on the Black Sea coast of Krasnodar Krai. In addition, the university includes in its structure pre-university training center, training center for foreign citizens, water fitness center "Garmoniya", fitness center and language training center.

The target training of physical education and sport staff on the basis of contracts with executive authorities of subjects of the Southern and the North Caucasian federal districts is being carried out in the university. Annually up to 15% of the volume of the state task for professional staff training is allocated for the university entrants according to target contracts. Here the individual job-placement procedure for the university graduates is functioning. The center of promotion of graduate employment is operating effectively. The annual graduation of specialists in physical culture and sport is more than seven hundred people. The university graduates are in demand on the regional and federal labor markets.

There is a scientific library in the university structure which is now one of the largest in the system of higher education institutions of physical culture and sport of the Russian Federation. Wireless Wi-fi is available in the reading room. New modern equipment and computers are installed

for the access to the e-library resources and remote databases in it. At the moment the full text database of works of the university scientists' papers totals more than one thousand records.

It is important for the university management system to improve the quality of the monitoring system of the educational process, which provides effective management of the processes defining the university strategic development. The main part of the monitoring system is the organizational and methodical support and different types of academic performance rating by means of large-scale computer testing of students based on intra-university test bases.

To create the unified system of assessment of department activity and improvement of its efficiency the rating evaluation of the activity of the university teaching staff was introduced for reasonable estimation of their results.

One of the main objectives of the university is to improve teachers' professional level. Courses intended for teachers to improve and master new competences on different programs are annually conducted at the faculty of professional development and retraining.
