X-RAY DIAGNOSTICS IN HEDP WITH HIGH POWER LASERS

Since the studies on hot dense plasma have been encouraged as a promising way to controlled fusion and to address fundamental properties of matter under extreme conditions, the progress in the field has been always linked with the development of appropriate diagnostic approaches and techniques. X-ray spatially resolved diagnostics prove its capabilities starting from early ICF experiments with kJ ns lasers till nowadays complex experiments on various aspects in high energy density physics.

Particularly, the introduction of spectrometers and imaging schemes equipped with spherically bent crystals remarkably extend the performance of X-ray diagnostics. The methods to analyze the emission of multicharged ions in a dense plasma has been developed considering resonance spectral line intensities, line profiles, sattelite structures, exotic states emission etc. They has been successfully applied in over 500 HED experiments with high power and high-intensity lasers, X- and Z-pinches, heavy ion beams, ion traps, X-ray lasers.

The talk is aimed to overview recent developments and results in X-ray diagnostics made by DiagHED lab at JIHT RAS for various HED experiments with sub-kJ and/or PW optical lasers and X-ray free electron lasers, considering:

Generation and transport of ultra-intense X-rays in PW laser plasma;

Studies of laser-induced radiation dominated and warm dense matter with X-ray emission and absorption spectroscopy;

Solid-density effects in X-ray emission spectra of ultra-relativistic laser plasma;

X-ray diagnostics of complex hydrodynamic phenomena in astrophysically-relevant laser plasma;

X-ray radiography of shocks, supersonic flows and plasma instabilities;

High Energy Density experiments with XFELs and fluorescent detectors.

The talk is dedicated to our teacher, colleague and brilliant scientist Anatoly Faenov, who will be in our minds and souls forever.
