ABSTRACT
Considering trending attraction of young candidates to scientific research work a brief guide is presented to assist them in preparation of completed work in the shortest possible time, in selection of the appropriate journal, and in publication of the results in journals of the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI).
Keywords: guide; research; student; publication; Russian Science Citation Index.

At the initial stages of studies the student scientific research activity inevitably raises questions on the form of presentation of the results of their work in journals of various levels. Interaction with a mentor — a research supervisor and a system of various types of practices designed to systematize the acquired knowledge are of great assistance in attracting early years students to creative work related to their major. This is necessary and contributes towards acquiring of skills in the preparation of results of research activities.
The main attention, as it has been already widely accepted, should be paid to the criteria for selection of scientific journal and assessment of its quality. For example, in papers [1-3], in our view, these requirements are met.
The key idea in working with student researchers at the initial stage is as follows: to create a portfolio of research works for further creative activity. At this stage, it is recommended to confirm one's research results in journals at the level that is not lower than RSCI. As a reminder, the RSCI database is a national information analytical system designed for the efficient access to scientific research with relevant references and bibliographic information. This enables to control the statistics of studies of a particular student (citability of articles, number of views, h-index of the author, etc.)
As a rule, when performing a research work, a student discusses the topic and course of research with a research supervisor.
• First of all, at the beginning of the research work, the title of the research study should not be given excess attention since the results may change the course of the research during the implementation of work, which may ultimately lead to reformulation of the title.
• When writing an article, one should remember that it is necessary to demonstrate the relevance, novelty and reliability of the research results, without which the work will not be published in a scientific journal.
• The layout of the article text should initially meet the technical requirements, similar to the design of a journal layout.
After the preliminary approval of the work and design of the article materials, it is necessary to select a journal in which the materials will be reviewed, and then be published. For this, it is necessary to register in the electronic research library "eLIBRARY".
It is necessary to agree on the status of the journal in RSCI, VAK, Scopus or Web of Science in advance. For instance, in journals of the last three categories, the results of significant scientific discoveries, close to dissertation research, are published, so student work with inappropriate results will not be accepted in such journals. At the same time, a journal with the level below RSCI is not suitable for publication. Furthermore, there is a problem on a global scale: the selected journal may subsequently be excluded from the status in which it is found at the time of search, if it violates the requirements. This problem is widely acknowledged, however it is impossible to predict in advance which journal may be excluded, for example, from RSCI or Scopus. The most reliable choice of such journals is checking their affiliation with recognised universities in Russia. Doing so one can be sure that research materials will forever remain in the RSCI citation ranking, and the journal or collection of conference proceedings will not be excluded for violation of any requirements. Recognised universities of Russia, unlike commercial ones, do not pursue financial gains, but see their goal only in publishing the results of scientific research. One of such proven and reliable conferences is the traditional international youth science conference "Tupolev Readings" which collection of papers is indexed in RSCI.
One of the signs of the so-called "junk" journals is the insignificant number of the editorial board members, for example, one or two editors without academic degrees and titles. Or, on the contrary, if members of a journal's editorial board include members of the Academy of Sciences or scientists with high Hirsch indexes, the credibility of the journal increases. Also, one should not choose printed journals that impose commercial services on their website in the form of sales of calendars, badges and award letters, when accepting articles.
It is impossible to predict in advance whether a journal or a collection of works conferences will be excluded from RSCI. However, there is a method that can superficially determine whether a journal is "junk". If one deliberately violates the requirements of the RSCI during submission of the materials of the article, for example, by entering an inappropriate number of sources of literature, which is called cheating of scientometric indicators and is considered a gross violation of research publication ethics, then the journal must refuse to publish. If the materials of the article with such violations undergo peer review and are accepted for publication, then one should restrain to publish in such journals and conference proceedings, as over time such a journal will be criticized and eventually excluded from RSCI. For example, in 2020, many "junk" journals were excluded from the RSCI database, as a result the published papers were removed from the list of citations. Considering that published materials cannot be reprinted, research papers of students remained unpublished.
Brief recommendations significantly reduce the time spent on searching for printed journals with an index not lower than of the RSCI. Therefore, the continuation of the clarification of the proposed recommendations will simplify the task of publishing in required scientific journals for students.
