Abstract: Floating acupuncture combined with thunder-fire moxibustion for Bell's Palsy is better than gneral acupuncture treatment, and can rapidly control the disease.A variety of therapies at the same time has a significant effect,both shorten the course of the disease, and reduce the physical and psychological pains that patients suffer from.So it is worth to be widely spread in clinical practice. Key words: Floating acupuncture ; Bell's Palsy ; Thunder-fire Moxibustion.
Bell's palsy is defined as an acute facial nerve paralysis, and is the most common cause of facial paralysis. At present, the etiology and pathogenesis of the disease is unclear and the treatment time window is very critical. If we didn't take effective treatment in the early onset ,it would lead to extend the duration, and directly affect the degree of the patient's recovery[1].According to statistics, more than 10 % of the patients are unable to regain normal facial function, and about 5 % of them suffer [2]. In order to improve the clinical curative effect better,and relieve the physical and mental pain that facial paralysis patients suffer from, we adopt floating acupuncture with thunder-fire moxibustion to treat Bell's Palsy. After many years of clinical practice , the treatment achieve satisfactory effect . Objective To observe the clinical effect of floating acupuncture combined with thunder-fire moxibustion for Bell's Palsy.
Treatment and methods (l)Floating acupuncture treatment:©Acupuncture points:main points: Cuanzhu(BL 2),Yangbai(GB 15) Dicang(ST 4) Jiache(ST 6) Quanliao(SI 18) Hegu(LI 4)on the healthy side.adjuvant points:Shuigou(DU 26),Chengjiang(RN 24),Yifeng(TE 17).@Operation: The above points for regular disinfection,Choose 0.35 x 40 mm needle,When acupuncture, the needle tip keeps 15° 30°into the skin,about 5 12mm,and needle not into the muscle layer along the skin,with pingbupingxie.Retaining needle 30min.(2) Thunder-fire moxibustion treatment: Lighting the moxibustion article, 4,5 cm from the skin,respectively for moxibustion on the frontalis orbicularis oculi and orbicularis oris where facial nerve distribution points, each part for 5min moxibustion to skin redness. Results and discussion Compared with pretreatment,the total effective rate of the treatment group was 98.39%. Floating acupuncture combined with thunder-fire moxibustion for Bell's palsy is superior to the general acupuncture treatment. Facial paralysis is caused by exogenous pathogenic wind, the location of the disease is superficial, and facial nerve distributed in the superficial part of the skin .Floating acupuncture can directly stimulate subcutaneous superficial collaterals[3].Although acupuncture can achieve the function of dredging meridians, there is no warm nature. Moxibustion has warm effect,and its heat of drugs can directly or indirectly stimulate the facial acupuncture points and the meridian,thus the meridians being smooth[4].Why we select thunder-fire moxibustion? First, thunder fire moxibustion contains more herbs than ordinary moxibustion, including Moxa, Tanxiang, Huoxiang, Chuanwu, Danshen,Whose efficacy is better than pure moxa leaf;Second, facial paralysis is more common in northern China,because of its high latitude, the fierce wind is easier invade deep.Thunder fire moxibustion buring more firepower, stronger penetration ability, can better achieve the effect of Qufengtongluo, and prevent the wind from the surface into the internal[5].
