While games to teach English learners are indeed a "change of pace" as stated above, they are also very useful tools for fluency, as "Children tend to forget they are learning and so use the language spontaneously." (Roth) In our own teaching experience, it seems the same can be true for adults. Basically, if you are having fun doing something, you don't have time to be bored or frustrated with it and will get more out of the activity.

Bear in mind when teaching English as a second language and teaching English as a foreign language, that the classroom may be the students' only exposure to the language. Games to teach English learners can help to make language learning a positive and exciting experience, which will be important and motivating to the students. If we keep students motivated and engaged in the lesson, the results can be incredible!

For several decades, English has been reliably recognized as the language of global communication; it is used in all corners of the world for both business and informal communication. Therefore, many modern parents believe that children should be taught English from a very early age; it will be like having a "second mother." Early childhood is divided into two conditional periods, in each of which the assimilation of language (and all information about the world) is characterized by its own characteristics. Up to age three, the baby only accumulates vocabulary. At this stage, he can only perceive the speech around him, process it, and repeat it. In a word, until the age of three, it is possible to learn only by immersion in the language environment: if the child is surrounded by people who speak English, then he himself will speak English. starts talking. Around the age of three, the so-called linguistic breakthrough occurs, and the period of active development of the ability to speak begins. At preschool age, a child, like a sponge, absorbs more and more information. At the same time, he can already focus his attention for some time and has perseverance and the ability to think logically. Perhaps the best time to start learning a foreign language is now. But, of course, it's not just about squeezing rules and

identifying linguistic patterns. How else? Below, we will talk about methods and tools for teaching English to preschool children. If a baby is raised by people who speak different languages from birth, he will speak both equally well. Many scientific studies show that bilingual people are especially flexible in their thinking and creativity.

Of the many methods offered by modern pedagogy, experienced teachers recommend choosing 1-3 and replacing them in the classroom. It is difficult to say which method is more effective; it all depends on the child's individual ways of perceiving and remembering information.

Zaitsev technique

One of the most popular and widespread It consists in teaching the baby to read and the ability to form words using the systematization of special "grammatical" cubes and tables. Cubes of different colours are used: first, learning letters and teaching words; then sentences. The combination of a bright visual and a playful element makes the method an excellent solution for learning English with the youngest students. The Zaitsev method helps to create algorithms for the application of learned rules and teaches students to look for patterns in the classroom in other subjects.

Doman technique

Although the Glenn Doman method can be used from infancy, learning English with it is especially effective from the age of 4. Special information cards are used, the content of which is shown to the child and spoken aloud at the same time. At first, the lessons are very short—one or two minutes—but the material is repeated many times until the information is firmly established. This method can be called "imprinting." When the child grows up, you can introduce the elements of the game with cards, then you can show presentations and videos.

Perfect for preschoolers, while it can be adapted for any age. In games, you can also learn grammar and phonetics as well as practice communication skills. The essence of the technique is clear from the name: all training takes place in the course of a natural game. Featured Games:

Role (situational). In these games, scenes are played—models of real-life situations. They are divided into two categories: reproductive, that is, repetitive, and improvisational. In the first case, children represent a typical situation and the dialogue in it, and in the second case, they use a creative approach, thinking of their own scenarios.

The competition is "who is better?" based on the principle Who can solve the crossword faster? Who writes the most interesting story? Who will do all the commands correctly? Encouraging competition helps children learn the material faster and make more efforts in mastering grammar rules and speech practice.

Creative. This type of activity develops not only language skills but also artistic inclinations. There are several types of creative games:

Word games: writing poems, songs, and stories;

Dramatic: staging first small scenes, then performances;

Visual—coloring, drawing, graphic dictations.

Musical. Learning songs and dances The use of musical accompaniment helps correct the rhythm of speech and hear its tone, and the possibility of physical activity and communication diversifies the learning process.

Immersion in the language environment

Communication with the child is only in English. At first, the lessons can be very short, but as the skill develops, they become longer. It is useful to combine the practice with daily activities, for example: wash your face and eat breakfast, comment on the movements, or discuss the past day while walking. As an assistant, you can use visual materials (cards, tables).

Combined technique

As the name suggests, in this method, at the discretion of the teacher, all the previous ones are mixed, from games to serious projects. The advantage of the approach is its diversity and wide range of tools for classes.

Tools for lessons with a preschool teacher

If the textbook is enough for adults to learn English, then the entertainment component of the lessons is very important for children; it not only helps to keep their attention but also makes learning the material more effective.

Picture books. For babies, bright books with pictures as well as letters and words are best; for older children, try folk songs, fairy tales, and short stories. Pictures diversify the lesson, prevent you from getting bored, and help to present written words in a figurative sense.

Phonetics and phonetic games Short videos, audio tracks, flashcards, and tongue twisters—all this will help you practice correct pronunciation.

Cartoons in English Muzzy, Baby Einstein, Super Nega! The characters of these cartoons are not only loved by children with their adventures, but they also teach the basics of grammar, practice pronunciation, and build phrases with the baby.

Workbooks and recipes The big red bus, I love English—these learning materials combine visualization and practice. Almost all workbooks are filled with audio material. Using the tool allows you to fill up your vocabulary, develop a creative approach to language learning, and practice writing, but it makes sense to use it with children aged 5-6 years.

The judicious use of any medium increases the level of interest of a small student and facilitates the format of lessons.

Pros and cons of teaching children a foreign language

Today's parents are increasingly trying to start the process of educating their children as early as possible: they take their children to early development centers, enroll in additional classes, or study at home, which is useful for the further development of the child. Teaching a foreign language is one of the three most popular areas. In fact, teachers believe that learning a foreign language early has many advantages: it provides new sources of information about the world around, helps to develop communication skills, develops logical and spatial thinking, provides a broader understanding of phonemic diversity, helps to teach other subjects in the future, and cultivates memory. But do not forget about traps. It is very easy to overload a preschool child with information, which affects not only the effectiveness of lessons but also further motivation. You should also make sure that the baby does not replace the concepts of one language with another. And, of course, it is very important for the baby to learn the correct pronunciation, and for this, first-hand learning will be a very good solution.
