The twenty-first century can be really called the century of technology. The latest technologies take place in every sphere of human activities, and medicine is no exception. One of the technical innovations in medicine in the 21st century, is the robot "da Vinci".
The robot "da Vinci" is the device for carrying out surgical operations.
It is produced commercially by the company Intuitive Surgical and used in hundreds of clinics around the world. It consists of two blocks, the first one is designed for the surgeon-operator, and the second block, the four - armed robot manipulator, is the acting device.
One of the robot's "arms" holds a video camera, which transmits the image of the operated area. The other two in the regime of real time reproduce a surgeon movement, and the fourth arm carries out functions of the assistant surgeon.
The spacecraft's mass is 500 kg. The surgeon sits at the console, which gives him the opportunity to see patients in 3D plot with multiple magnification and uses special joysticks, to control the tools.
Robotic surgery started to develop in the 1980-ies. One of the first automatic devices in surgery was "da Vinci". The working prototype was developed at the end of 1980-ies according to the contract with the U.S. army. By 2015 more than 3,000 devices have been built. The cost of the system "da Vinci" is 2 million. In the USA in July 2014 the clinics had 2153 systems "da Vinci".
In 2012 the global number of operations using the system "da Vinci" was about 200 thousand, mainly hysterectomy and prostatectomy.
In Russia there are twenty-five surgical systems "da Vinci": in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Khanty-Mansiysk, Yekaterinburg, Novosibirsk, Tyumen, Krasnodar, Rostov-on-Don and on the island Russkij.
