Damiana Extract (Turners diffusa Willd.) is used for treatment of „hypoactive sexual desire disorder". Additionally spasmolytic and antianxiety effects have been reported. In order to learn more on its direct action on the brain a female subject (31 years old) underwent fast dynamic quantitative EEG recording in combination with eye tracking (termed „EnkephaloVision") before and 90 minutes after intake of one tablet containing 225 mg dry extract (DEV: 5-7:1, ethanol 90% (V/V) of Damiana. Recordings took place in the relaxed state and in the presence of diverse challenges., among them the d2 concentration endurance test, a memory test, arithmetic calculation, a picture comparison, stroop test, brain teasing and erotic pictures as well as an erotic video („Chippendale") over 23 minutes. A comparison oft the data before and after intake of Damiana extract revealed increases of spectral alpha power in the central and parietal region of the cortex as well as in the

occipital cortex during the relaxed state. Increases oft the alpha waves are interpreted as reflecting a higher state of relaxation and less anxiety. Results from cognitive and emotional challenges were evaluated against the data from the relaxed state and revealed increases of spectral delta power in the frontal brain and decreases of alpha spectral power in the central and parietal lobes during performance ofthe d2 concentration endurance test. During watching erotic images delta and theta spectral power increased in frontal and temporal regions after intake of Damiana extract. Similar results were obtained during watching the erotic video. Increases of delta and theta spectral power indicate a higher state of mental activation. The results of this case report signalize direct effects of Damiana extract on the brain and promise positive clinical results in a future study using this advanced EnkephaloVision technology. A short video will be shown.

The main goal of the present work is to investigate the chemical and biological activity of Buddleja polystachya Fresen. (Buddlejaceae) to discover new mosquitocidal agents for control of Aedesaegypti L, a vector of several arboviral diseases to humans.

The total ethanolic extract of the aerial parts of B. polystachyawas subjected to extensive chromatographic fractionation and purification. Extracts from aerial parts of B. polystachya were bioassayed against first instar Ae. aegypti and female adult Ae. zaegypti. The structures of the isolated compounds were elucidated using different spectroscopic techniques.

Nineteen compounds belonging to iridoids (7,9,1213,17), flavonoids (2,5,18), triterpenoidalsaponin glycosides (4,11,16,19), phenylethanoids (3,6) and miscellaneous (1,10,14-15) were isolated from the aerial parts of B. polystachya. Compound 9, a catalpol derivative, is reported here for the first time. Primary screening found that the extracts were not active against larvae but had good adulticidal activity, therefore the isolated compounds were only tested against adults. Compounds having 80.0% or greater mortality during the initial screening at 5 ^g/mosquito were tested further with dose-response bioassays to determine lethal dose values (LD50).
