Abstract: the article deals with the essence of such a phenomenon of modern culture as an audiobook. It investigates different aspects and manifestations of its features: accessibility, easy to use, radio play similarity and others.
Keywords: audiobook, modern culture, modern man, reading, listening, literature.
The appearance of audiobooks has become a great gift for reading lovers, who are always busy with everyday activities, work, study ... Although not! Just in school they
became a help. Especially audiobooks for studying English noticeably accelerated, simplified and diversified the learning process. Audio-manuals for learning English have a lot of pluses. First, they are effective. Regularly listening to the speech of native speakers, you will improve your listening skills and understand how the most correct to speak in English. In addition, there are audio courses for students with different levels of language proficiency. This helps to improve the knowledge already available and to move forward. Audiobooks are designed specifically for learning, they involve systematic classes and lessons, and some are also accompanied by printed manuals. Secondly, audiobooks are available and convenient to use. They can be downloaded on the Internet or bought at any bookstore. Audiobooks can be listened at any convenient time and anywhere - at home, on vacation, on public transport or in the car on the way to work.
Modern man is able to do several things at the same time, combining pleasant with useful. Therefore, various kinds of expectations and routine activities began to be accompanied by listening to audiobooks, which means a work of literature read by one or several people, with musical, and noise accompaniment and recorded on magnetic, electronic, etc. media (plate, audio cassette, CD, DVD discs, cell phone, mp3 player). Audiobook as a phenomenon of culture gradually fits into the system of modern culture and finds its admirers. It appears in this image as inherited and mastered by new generations phenomenon based on human effort, skill and aesthetic taste. The works of literature around us, "finding a voice," appear as the world of "animated" characters. In this sense, they are always in the present [1,p. 18].
Let's turn to the advantages of audiobooks. It releases hands and eyes, which makes it possible to listen to the work in parallel and perform some kind of activity. Provides accessibility and wide choice. Thanks to the Internet there is access to many works of literature: foreign, domestic, modern, classical, for children. In addition, one book can be in several versions, that is, the work can be read by one person or several, with or without music, with abbreviations or in full exposition.
Such reading does not require additional lighting. Regardless of the medium on which the audio is reproduced, it can be perceived both at daylight and dark, which is important for people who have visual problems.
The text can be played on any medium. In the broad sense, audiobook should be understood any work of literature (both artistic and scientific), reproduced with a turntable, personal computer, music center, mp3 player, etc. In one case, an audiobook is recorded (downloaded) to the device as a file, in the other - it is played from a plate, audio cassette, CD, DVD. In this case, a more mobile form of listening is the cell phone and mp3 player. Stand alone is the type of listening with a radio, if the person is in the car. A "home" listening device is a personal computer or a laptop.
The electronic library does not take up a large physical space. The place is only necessary for the material carrier on which the book is reproduced. The shelf life of the work is almost unlimited. In particular, the files stored on the computer. Modern technologies allow you to create copies and permanently store them on electronic media. It's almost impossible to lose an audiobook (there is a parable about two apples and two thoughts: if two people exchange apples with each other, each of them will have one apple; if two people exchange thoughts with each other, each leaves with two thoughts). Audiobook, more often than not, is a free pleasure. In Kazakhstan segment of the Internet there is a significant number of open electronic libraries of diverse content. Attendance of the most popular of them far exceeds the attendance of classical libraries [5, p. 403].
In the process of creating and playing audiobooks, speech practice improves. Listening to the samples of the reference pronunciation in the recording (reading the masters of the artistic word) gives an idea of the correct diction and promotes the development of speech hearing [4, p. 8].
The audiobook has its drawbacks. First, while doing several things in parallel, you can miss the essence of the content. Suggestions in the audiobook are a continuous stream, in

some cases (depending on the pace of speech, loudness, intelligibility, musical accompaniment, etc.), you can skip the fundamentally important points on which the meaning of the whole work depends. The rewind function in this case does not always help: we do not see, visually we do not fix that piece of text, on which we would like to move back or forward. Secondly, unreliability. Electricity can be turned off, the device is playing an audiobook, can be discharged, broken. That is, there must always be a source of energy nearby. Thirdly, the inner voice can resist the voice of the announcer, who influences his will on the listener, "forcing" him to see the text in the way that the speaker sees it or refers to it [3,p. 133]. Fourthly, not all people are of the auditory type. It is much more important for many to hold a book in their hands, leaf through, feel the texture of the cover, pages. Often you can hear that books have a special smell. Fifthly, sound tracks can be damaged during recording. Sixth, given the fact that the duration of many audio plays exceeds 20 hours, daily listening of fragments for 4 hours in a row can wear both the device itself and the headphones. It is often necessary to connect the charger, or change the batteries. Seventh, one often has to deal with such a problem as determining where to stop listening. In this case, you have to memorize the audio track number or file name. Audiobook deprives the listener of the possibility of turning pages. Eighth, dissonance of content and reading is possible. Voice of the announcer, speed of speech, intonation, music, etc. may not be appropriate to the content of the work. Monotony of speech, indistinctness, music drowns out the voice and (or) does not fit the genre. It happens that the book is read only in one (not the most successful) version and it is necessary to make a choice: to refuse to listen to it or to tolerate the shortcomings of reading: distortion of the endings and accents, non-observance of the norms of literary pronunciation, non-observance of pauses [3, p. 133].
The newest culture, based on electricity and electronic technology, is a multidimensional education, in which book and post-book culture coexist. In addition, modern research demonstrates a tendency to synthesize both, which gives hope for the development of audiovisual culture of the universal possibilities of a book culture [5, p. 402].
At the same time, it should be noted that all the points listed are the result of subjective analysis. To take this or that side, it is necessary to get acquainted with this phenomenon by an empirical method. Perhaps, new advantages will be found, and the shortcomings will become insignificant. Perhaps everything will be exactly the opposite. In this case, the proponents of this phenomenon will seek ways to minimize its shortcomings.
