There are few countries that have experienced such profound changes in all spheres of life in such a short time, as Russia. Closeness bordering on isolation from the rest of the world was replaced by wide and frequent (and for many daily) contact with people from around the world. Travel abroad, private and business has become the norm for millions of citizens of our country. Previously, the term "international relations" was applied almost exclusively to the field of international relations, but today many companies and organizations of various kinds and with different forms of property conduct its "foreign policy", entering into a business relationship with partners from other countries and regions. As a rule, the main means of communication is correspondence [2].
Of course, nothing can replace personal contact, direct negotiations and meetings. Talking over the phone is playing a huge role in modern life as well. But, nevertheless, it is the exchange of letters (no matter how they are sent - by ordinary mail or by fax) remains the most economical means of transferring and receiving information. So, it is very important to master writing the letters. In international correspondence it is particularly significant. If you want to achieve success in writing letters, you should follow all the rules, norms and style accepted in international correspondence, take into account the characteristics of the national culture of the partners, and finally, the language understood by the partner. In the twenty-first century this language is primarily English.
The language is regarded as a way, following which we penetrate not only into the nation's modern mentality, but also into the ancient people's views on the world, society and themselves. The repercussions of the years gone by, with the centuries outlived, are preserved presently in the proverbs, sayings, praseological units, metaphors, symbols of culture, etc.
A human is known to become that only then, when he learns the language and concurrently the culture of his nation beginning from the childhood. All the minutest details of people's culture are reflected in their language, which is specific and unique, since it secures in different ways the world and human in itself.
The larger part of information on the world comes to a human by linguistic channel, that is why a human lives more in the world of concepts, he has created himself for the intellectual, spiritual, social needs, rather than in the world of subjects and things: a great share of information comes to him through the word, and a human's success in society depends on how good he is as a master of word, and not so even in the view of speech culture, as ability to penetrate the mystery of language. The language not only reflects the reality, but interprets it, creating a special reality, in which a human lives.
Unfortunately, the number of people in our country who are fluent in English is still small. And those, who can competently conduct business correspondence in a language which today plays the role of a means of international communication, even less. Perhaps among the European countries, only Russia is still a country where the mere knowledge of the English language with minimal skills of speaking and writing is a profession. In international forums of various kinds such as business meetings, trade fairs, conferences interpreter accompanying the Russian leader still remains the norm rather than the exception to the rule. Similarly, business correspondence in

English and other foreign languages is most commonly conducted by translators or reviewers, rather than by the "subjects" of communication [1].
But it is not enough to know a foreign language. It is important to use it properly. The rules of speech are not always applicable in all correspondence. Email correspondence has its style as well. It is one thing if you are writing a letter to the person with whom you have previously had no contact, and quite another when you refer to his longtime partner. It is necessary to know the different levels of subordination and the rules of communication, taken place in different types of organization or company. One can cite numerous examples of lost contacts, unrealized ideas, the causes of which were incorrect or illiterate appeal to potential partners. And, finally, English language is flexible, capacious and rich. However, it can prepare traps that could lead to the result to be counterproductive. Special problems arise not only in the process of writing the letters, but also in their preparation. Add to that the problems associated with the specifics of English people, for whom English is not native language. The problem is that foreign partners will translate all written phrases into their own language word by word, no matter how ridiculous and absurd it may seem. That's why you need to avoid embellishment style in the letters and express your thoughts intelligible, clear and using precise language [3].
Thus, to write precisely and clearly means to use such English words and expressions that do not allow dual interpretation. It should be kept in mind that all you have said will be understood in the literal sense of the word.
It is concluded that certain misunderstandings in the international business correspondence seem entertaining, sometimes hilarious, others - just stupid. But some of them (and there are few) become almost tragic if the result of their lack of understanding and confusion become detrimental to the most important aspects of the business relationship. Careless use of language in correspondence and personal contact is recognized by many as one of the two most serious obstacles to the effective development of international relations. [4] Another obstacle is the resistance to different cultures, customs and traditions. International business correspondence should be treated from this position.
