Аннотация научной статьи по языкознанию и литературоведению, автор научной работы — Pardayev A.A.

Martin’s diligence and hard work are the best motivation. You voluntarily associate yourself with a hero. He succeeded - I will succeed too. I think every author, and of course every writer whose book goes on sale, should read Martin Eden. He personally hit me hard. Because all the worries of the person who wants to write and publish are so concentrated in his pages that the cruel reality makes it difficult for you to breathe. Jack London fills our minds with the water of wisdom. This article discusses the meaning of Jack Martin’s novel Martin Eden, the inner world of man, and the struggle for life.

Jack London fills our minds with the water of wisdom. This article discusses the meaning of Jack Martin's novel Martin Eden, the inner world of man, and the struggle for life.

Keywords: Jack London, Martin Eden, novel, inner world, life of heroes, struggle for survival, system of bourgeois society.

"If I don't like something, then I just don't like it. Why do I have to pretend I like it just because most people like it or think they like it? I think it's a tradition now." I can't love or not love just for the sake of it."

From Jack London's novel Martin Eden.

The novel Martin Eden was written by the great writer Jack London, first published in The Pacific Monthly in 1908-1909, and in 1909 as a separate book by Macmillan Company. The novel is largely autobiographical: Martin Eden and Jack London have a lot in common. Both came from the lower strata of society and have made great strides in literature on their own. As a young man in London, he tried his hand at many things; he wrote masterpieces based on his experience as a sailor, a factory worker, a laundry company worker. The image of Ruth is taken from Jack London's first love.

One day, Martin Eden, a 20-year-old sailor on a ferry, protects a young man named Arthur Morse from a mob. He is the same age as Martin, but he is rich and educated. As a token of gratitude, Arthur invites Martin to dinner to introduce him to his family. The atmosphere of the house - paintings on the walls, books, piano Martin delights and amazes. Arthur's sister, Ruth, makes a special impression on him. To him, she was a symbol of purity, beauty, and even divinity. Martin decides to be a girl. He goes to the library to join Ruth, Arthur, and other educated people. Martin was a man of talent and deep nature. She is passionate about literature and language. He is in frequent contact with Ruth, and she helps him with his studies. Ruth - a conservative and very

narrow-minded girl - also tries to put Martin in the mold of the people around her, but fails.

After spending all the money he earned on his last voyage, Martin was hired to sail and set sail. During an eight-month long swim, Martin learns, enriches his vocabulary and mental capacity, and begins to understand himself better. She has a lot of energy and suddenly realizes that she wants to be a writer. Then she could understand the beauty of the world with him. Ruth falls in love with Martin, but her ideas about life do not allow her to understand. Ruth Martin wants to study, and as a result, the young man passes the high school exam, but fails in all subjects except grammar.

It does not fit into the scope of bourgeois culture familiar to Martin Ruth. The money he earned in swimming runs out, and Martin is hired by a laundry company to iron clothes. He is tired of this hard work. She stops reading and starts drinking on the weekends as she used to. He leaves the laundry company, realizing that this job is not only arduous but also stupid.

But the failure continued. When he ran out of money, he mortgaged his coat, then his watch, then his bike. He only ate potatoes, struggled with hunger, and from time to time ate with his sister or Ruth. Suddenly, almost unexpectedly, Martin receives a letter from a thick magazine. The magazine wants to publish his manuscript, but is willing to pay only $ 5, although it is estimated that they will actually have to pay $ 100.

Martin continues to live, and he is not even happy with the income from magazines - almost everything he wrote was now published. The epic poem "Ephemeris", published by Martin after his death, has been widely criticized. Martin's friend is glad he didn't see it.

Martin Eden is a great example of an educational novel. We live with him at every stage of his development and what steps he takes to be honored through his achievements, his joys, his books. Does Martin Eden himself think that books illuminate life and make it more enjoyable and interesting? No. Martin has always been a rude sailor who likes to talk straight. But culture brings him closer to Ruth, and that was his goal. But a new perspective crosses his path: he discovers that he can write his favorite literature. Stealing time from sleep, working nineteen hours a day, living an unhappy life, almost impoverishing himself, he wrote his first stories and sent them to the best magazines in the country. Even if you collect the rejected originals on your desktop without attracting the attention of an editor, you will not be disappointed. She hopes that if she succeeds in publishing her work, she will fall in love with him.

But I don't believe there is an idyllic notion of culture in his behavior. It does not matter to him not to publish, not even to write; The main thing is to make money. If you're not rich, you're nobody. Jack London was as American as his protagonist, which means he was pragmatic. And money brings happiness to society, and that's the only thing that brings happiness. The novel

is about a little man sitting in front of a typewriter and trying to fight the brutal power of great publishers. In this pragmatic society, you can be the best writer in the world, but if you are not published and your books are not sold, you are nobody, you are not even a writer. No one trusts Martin except himself. Others do not believe that he can find a place in life and overcome difficulties. Martin Eden was a lonely, strong, illiterate, but kind, stubborn, and purposeful man from a poor family who had seen and felt many things in his life. He is not afraid of hard and dirty work.

Love. It was a feeling that revolutionized his heart and brought him to knowledge. The band of love attracted the sailor to books and eventually made him a great writer. He loves Ruth so much, he wants to like her ... She does not worry about sleep, food and clothes. To please Ruth, she grows up to be a man. A wise man who is superior to the intellect, he leaves behind those whom he once considered to be geniuses. He had everything: money, prestige, fame and a strong mind. But he was an unhappy man who could not buy happiness with money ...

In conclusion, this novel is especially suitable for young people who work quietly at home to gain a foothold in the publishing world. There is a postulate for them in this book: if you work hard, you will get what you want. It's an exciting, glorious, novelized American mentality. Jack London was a man who was strongly influenced by the ideas of the great thinkers of his time, especially Herbert Spencer and Nietzsche. The novel praises the survival of the most deserving man in the struggle for life. Martin is a very confident young man who has made his adventures wise and talented. Martin Eden is a work about life, will, discipline and self-esteem. In an age where losers were the main protagonists of literature, Martin Eden became an unforgettable exception, just as Jack was in London: he became famous and prestigious after earning a million dollars.
