DISCUSSION METHOD Annotation

The article discusses the discussion method and analyzes its features.

Keywords: discussion method.

Discussion occurs whenever there is disagreement about a situation. It involves the exchange of questions and ideas between participants. The purpose of discussion is to encourage the exchange of ideas and viewpoints, even if this may not lead to any solution to the problem.

Hall and Paolucci (1968) noted that various studies comparing the effectiveness of discussion procedures and lectures found that discussions were about as effective as lectures when information acquisition was measured immediately after experimental periods. Later measurements show that discussion methods may be superior to lectures or reading for retaining information. Discussion methods have also been found to be excellent in promoting the application of learned material and the formation of relationships that are important for the formation of behaviors.

Discussion values

1. Develops students' ability to debate.

2. Increases students' self-confidence.

3. Identifies different student perspectives on solving a problem.

4. It identifies past experiences and known facts relevant to the issue under discussion.

5. It inspires people to take action to improve their situation. For example, discussing the implications of immunization against disease, including presenting facts and sharing experiences, can encourage people to immunize themselves and their families.

6. This may encourage groups to develop a plan of action. For example, discussing the benefits that women can gain from income-generating activities may encourage women to take up such activities.

Types of discussion

There are different types of discussion methods that can be used in teaching. They are:

1. Class discussion

2. Panel discussion

3. Symposium

4. Colloquium

Among them, informal class discussion is the most widely used classroom teaching method.

1. Class discussion

Class discussions can be about a general topic, such as the need for home economics training, or a specific topic, such as "careers in home economics."

The effectiveness of classroom discussion depends on the age and ability of the students, class size, subject matter being taught, and the teacher's experience and skill in facilitating discussion.

2. Panel discussion

A panel discussion is also known as a round table discussion.

It consists of a group of three to six people who express their opinions on a particular issue. The group clarifies the issue before each member reacts to it, taking each point lightly and freely to keep the discussion

lively. In a classroom where the panel is made up of students, the role of moderator can be either the teacher or the student. He must successfully obtain the participation of each member of the commission. Bibliography:
