1. Introduction
At the Faculty of Kinesiology highly qualified professionals in kinesiology are educated. After graduation they are competent to perform all kinds of teaching in physical education (physical and health-related education, PE) at all levels of the educational system in Croatia (from the pre-school level to the higher education level), to manage sporting activities and sports training programmes within the area of competitive sport for selected groups of children, youngsters and adult sportspersons, and to organise and lead leisure-time sporting activities (physical recreation) for adults within the movement Sport for all. They are also capable of implementing kinesitherapeutic procedures and realising sports programmes for people with disabilities.
Based on its previous achievements, the Faculty of Kinesiology will be undoubtedly able, using the new study curriculum, to educate experts who can
meet the demands both of the public and of the private labour market.
2. General part
2.1. Name of the study: University study of kinesiology.
2.2. The host and realiser of the study: University of Zagreb - Faculty of Kinesiology.
2.3. Duration of the study
The duration of the university study of kinesiology is ten semesters or five academic years, of which the undergraduate study course in kinesiology is six semesters or 3 academic years, and the university graduate study course in kinesiology lasts additional four semesters or two academic years (6+4 semesters or 3+2 years).

study which lasts 3 academic years (6 semesters). The programme is the same for all the students in the first five semesters. At this level of higher education all the students learn the core fundamentals of kinesiology and of the adjacent and cognate scientific disciplines.
The classes of the sixth semester of the undergraduate study are organised in a more flexible way, that is, in two varieties:
The students who have decided to continue the study for the Master of Kinesiology degree attainment continues to attend the compulsory subjects programme in the 6th semester that will qualify them for the direct continuation of the university graduate study and after completing which they may, if they wish, obtain the title Bachelor of Kinesiology (it is not a leaving-certificate qualification);
The students who have decided to finish their study of kinesiology may select the subjects of one of the elective modules that give them their actual vocational qualification (professional qualification for employment), that is they may enrol in one of the leaving-certificate level programmes: sport, or
physical recreation, or fitness-training programmes, or physical conditioning of athletes, and become bachelors of the chosen area of applied kinesiology.
2.5. Graduate study
At the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb, the Bachelors of Kinesiology continue their higher education for the title of Master of Kinesiology by direct enrolment into the university graduate study of kinesiology the duration of which is additional four semesters in the fourth and the fifth year of the study course.
In accordance with the recommendations of the National Council for Higher Education and the standings of the Committee for Educational Studies, which endorse double-major or double-competence university graduate studies, the Faculty of Kinesiology will provide each student with an opportunity to attain a second higher-education qualification apart from the one of a master of kinesiology in education (teacher of physical education), by offering additional elective specialization programmes (elective modules) in one of the applied disciplines of kinesiology. Students select one of the offered specialization modules when enrolling in the fourth year of the study. In this way each graduate from the university graduate study will attain an additional higher qualification for work in either sports, or physical recreation, or kinesitherapy, or sport management.
In that way every graduate from the university study of kinesiology attains a double academic title and two professional competences of equal value.
2.6. Academic title or degree attained by graduating from the study
By completing the leaving-certificate level, or actual vocational direction of the university undergraduate study at the Faculty of Kinesiology, the graduates will be competent to work in the areas of sport, physical recreation, fitness-training
programmes, or physical conditioning of athletes, and they will attain an adequate certificate academic title: Bachelor of (the chosen) Sport (e.g. Bachelor of Athletics, Basketball, Swimming, etc.), or Bachelor of Physical Recreation, Bachelor of Fitness Training, or Bachelor of Physical Conditioning of Athletes.
By completing the elective course of the undergraduate study that qualifies the student directly for continuation of the university study of kinesiology and by sitting and passing the final examination, the students will, if they want, attain the academic title BACHELOR (baccalaureus) OF KINESIOLOGY.
By completing the university graduate study at the Faculty of Kinesiology, all graduates attain the academic title of Master of Kinesiology in Education (the first major) and the qualification to teach physical education at all levels of the educational (school) system in Croatia. In accordance with the specialization in one of the fields of applied kinesiology, the graduates from the university graduate study attain the additional (the second major) competence and academic title of equal value:
- Master of Kinesiology in Sport or
- Master of Kinesiology in Kinesiological Recreation or
- Master of Kinesiology in Kinesitherapy or
- Master of Kinesiology in Sport Management.
The second degree (competence) in the chosen
field of kinesiology is added to the first academic degree, so the full academic title of the graduate from the university study of kinesiology at the Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb, will be as follows: Master of Kinesiology in Education and Sport, or Master of Kinesiology in Education and Kinesiological Recreation, or Master of Kinesiology in Education and Kinesitherapy, or Master of Kinesiology in Education and Sport Management.

Regular attendance to classes, the fulfilment of other study-related obligations and obtaining signatures of all subject leaders and teachers, who thus confirm that the student has fulfilled all the obligations, are the prerequisite for the registration of the semester as completed. The registration of the semester as completed and the enrolment in the next semester are done according to the conditions and according to the time schedule determined by the Faculty Council of the Faculty of Kinesiology University of Zagreb.
The student obtains the right to enrol in the following year of the study upon fulfilling all study-related duties expressed in at least 50 ECTS credits collected from the subjects from the current year of the study, but provided that he/she does not transfer to the higher study year more than two examinations that he/she had not passed.
The students who have not fulfilled the conditions for enrolling in the higher year of the study can continue to study by simultaneously enrolling again in the subjects (obligations) that they have not fulfilled in the previous academic year and in the new subjects (obligations), but in such a way that his/her total study-related obligations in each semester fall between the allowed range limits from 25 to 35 ECTS credits, that is, up to 70 credits in each year of the study.
To enrol in the final sixth semester and in one of the offered elective modules form the field of sport (basketball, handball, swimming, etc.) the university undergraduate student must, before enrolling in the
sixth semester, beside having regularly attended the classes and having completed the registered fifth semester, pass the examination in the compulsory subject from that sport with his/her mark being not less than least very good (4)1.
If the student elects the module from sport whose classes he/she has not yet attended because of the structure of the curriculum, that is, the module from the sport that is not in the curriculum, he/she should take and pass both the preliminary test of knowledge related to this sport and the test of specific capacities.
To enrol in the desired elective module of the graduate study the student must also fulfil certain additional conditions that will be determined by the decision of the Faculty Council.
5. Closing remark
