Annotation. The article deals with the sentences with linking verb of being in English to be and its contrastive analysis in English and Turkmen.

The verb to be is the linking verb that connects the subject and the nominal predicate in the sentence. It combines with several parts of speech in the sentence and it is given with different examples in this article.

Keywords: copulative verbs, grammatical indicator, nominal predicate, predicative.

Copulative verbs are complicated language phenomenon in English. A copular verb is considered to be a part of the predicate and it can be used as a nominal predicate. The analysis of their definition method and their semantic and grammatical structure is the issue not in the field of grammar but in the translation as well. Rendering the original meaning of the sentence can be expressed by the usage of the means of language. One of the main peculiarities of the English language is the usage of a lot of verb groups. Copulative verbs play a great role of these groups.

As usual in normative and scientific grammar copulative verb is considered to be auxiliary verb which denotes logical connection between subject and predicate. V.V. Vinogradov supports that idea [1, стр.32]. According to L.S.Barhudarov's [3, pp.23-26]. point of view auxiliary verbs perform real grammatical functions, they don't denote any lexical meaning but they express only grammatical meaning. The verb to be and its equivalent in Turkmen language "bolmak" may be similar or different. The verb to be has the meaning of "being" but the verb "bolmak" can give two meanings as "barlyk" (being) and "emele gelmek"(to form). The difference of them is that the verb to be functions as the part of copulative in the meaning of "barlyk" (being) in the structure of the nominal predicate in all tenses of English language; in Turkmen language different devices can function it: predicative, person, predicative affixes and etc.
