Modal verbs are a special group of verbs that express modality, that is, the speaker's attitude to the content of the utterance. Modality can express possibility, necessity, obligation, probability and possibility.

In English, modal verbs form a separate group, which differs from other verbs in a number of ways. First, modal verbs do not have present and past tense forms. They are used only in the infinitive form. Secondly, modal verbs do not change according to

persons and numbers. Third, modal verbs can be used in combination with the infinitive of other verbs.

There are about 10 modal verbs in English. The most commonly used modal verbs

are:

• Can - opportunity

• May - possibility, permission

• Must - necessity, obligation

• Ought to - obligation, necessity

• Will - intention, determination

• Would - intention, determination in the past

• Can - opportunity

• Could - possibility in the past

Modal verbs can be used in different contexts. For example, the modal verbcan can be used to express possibility, permission or ability. For example:

• I can speak English. (I can speak English.)

• Can I go to the bathroom? (Can I go to the toilet?)

• He can play the piano. (He knows how to play the piano.)

Modal verb must can be used to express necessity, obligation or obligation. For example:

• You must go to school. (You must go to school.)

• I must finish this work by tomorrow. (I must finish this work by tomorrow.)

• We must help them. (We must help them.)

Modal verb should can be used to express ought, recommendation or advice. For example:

• You should eat your vegetables. (You must eat vegetables.)

• I should study harder. (I must study harder.)

• We should help the environment. (We must help the environment.)

Modal verbs can cause some difficulties for English language learners. For example, the modal verbs can and may can be used to express possibility, but There are

some differences between them. The modal verbcanis used to express the ability or ability to do something, and the modal verbmay< a i=8> is used to express the ability or permission to do something.

Modal verbs play an important role in the English language. They allow you to express different shades of modality, which makes speech more expressive and accurate. Learning modal verbs is an important part of learning English. Common features

• In both languages, modal verbs do not have present or past tense forms. They are used only in the infinitive form.

• In both languages, modal verbs do not change for persons or numbers.

• In both languages, modal verbs can be used in combination with the infinitive of other verbs.

Differences

• In Turkmen, modal verbs usually come before the infinitive they modify. For example:

men bilmek isleyarin. (I want to know.)

In English, modal verbs usually come after the infinitive they modify. For example: I want to know.

• In the Turkmen language, modal verbs can be used in combination with other modal verbs. For example:

men bilmek mumkin bolyanfa, oynayaryn. (I'll play until I find out.)

In English, modal verbs cannot be used in combination with other modal verbs.

• The Turkmen language has modal verbs that have no analogues in English. For example:

- mumkin

- gerek

- mumkin bolyar

- gerek bolyar

These verbs express different shades of modality, such as possibility, necessity, obligation, probability and possibility.
