AL-BIRUNI'S CONTRIBUTION TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF MEDICAL
SCIENCE IN UZBEKISTAN

From time immemorial, Uzbekistan has been one of the cradles of world civilization, uniting the cultural and scientific wealth of mankind. This fertile land is the birthplace of such great scientists and thinkers as Abu Ali Ibn Sino, al-Khorezmi, al-Beruni, Mirzo Ulugbek and others, whose scientific achievements have forever entered the golden fund of world science and culture.
Al-Biruni is a great Uzbek scientist who was born in 973 in Khorezm. He has written more than 150 works in philology, astronomy, mechanics, geodesy, geography, mineralogy, geology, mathematics, as well as in pharmacology. He is an encyclopedic scientist of his time. In addition to these merits, Al-Beruni directed the scientific Academy, which was opened at the suggestion and efforts of the Khorezmshahs Ali ibn Mamun and Mamun ibn Mamun in the capital of Khorezm, Gurgendj. Famous scientists of that time worked and created at this Academy: Abu Ali ibn Sina, Abu Sahl al Mashiy al Zhurjaniy, Abu Nasr ibn Iraq, Abu Said ibn Muammad ibn Miskawayh, Abul Khair Hammor, Abu Mansur as-Saolibi, Ahmad Muammad as-Sahri, Zainiddin Zhurjoni, Abul Hassan Mamun, Abu Muammad Khorazmi, Abu'l-Faraj ibn Hindu and others.
In the work of Al-Biruni "Kitab as-Saydana fi-t-tibb" ("Pharmacognosy in medicine"), which was written in Arabic, more than a thousand medicinal medicines, 150 ordinary plants and more than 100 animal preparations are described in detail and described. The scientist, having studied pharmacology data in Arabic, Greek, Indian, Persian, Sogdian and other languages about 4 thousand species of plants, animals, minerals and medicinal substances obtained from them, was the first in Central Asia to make a huge contribution to the ordering of pharmaceutical terms.
Al-Biruni was lucky enough to collaborate with the great tabib Abu Ali ibn Sina at the Ma'mun Academy. During this period, Abu Ali ibn Sina began to write his great treatise on

Thus, Al-Biruni, as an encyclopedic scientist, made his contribution not only to exact sciences, but also to medicine and pharmacology, therefore, the first President of our state, I.A. Karimov, noted that it is not by chance that historians of natural science around the world call the XI century the "century of Beruni".
