Abtract. The purpose of teaching listening comprehension in English language classes for elementary school students is to help them develop the ability to understand spoken English. This is an essential skill for communication and success in the language.

The tasks involved in the formation of listening comprehension competence include developing students' ability to identify sounds, words, and phrases in spoken English; understanding the main ideas and details of spoken English; and recognizing and understanding different accents and dialects.

Improving listening comprehension skills in elementary school students is crucial for their overall academic development. Here's a list of potential works and approaches that educators might find useful for enhancing students' listening comprehension competencies:

1. Interactive Read-Alouds: Encouraging teachers to use interactive read-aloud strategies, where they stop periodically to ask questions and provide opportunities for students to engage in discussions about the text, can help improve listening comprehension.

2. Audiobooks and Podcasts: Utilizing audiobooks and educational podcasts tailored to elementary school students can aid in developing listening skills and fostering a love for stories and information sharing.

3. Listening Comprehension Worksheets: Providing students with structured listening comprehension worksheets that accompany audio recordings, enabling them to practice focused listening and demonstrate their understanding through various activities.

4. Peer Reading and Storytelling: Implementing peer reading activities and storytelling sessions can help students develop their listening skills while also fostering a collaborative and interactive learning environment.

5. Visual and Contextual Support: Using visual aids and contextual support, such as illustrations, graphic organizers, and real-life references, alongside audio materials to enhance understanding and retention.

6. Technology-Integrated Activities: Incorporating educational technology tools, such as interactive whiteboards, educational apps, and computer programs, to deliver audio-based activities and exercises tailored to improving listening comprehension.

7. Vocabulary Development Through Listening: Integrating listening comprehension activities into listening exercises, allowing students to learn new words in context and enhancing their overall language comprehension.

8. Listening Centers: Establishing listening centers within the classroom or school library where students can access a variety of audio materials for independent or group listening practice.

9. Explicit Teaching of Listening Strategies: Directly instructing students on effective listening strategies such as making predictions, visualizing, and summarizing while listening to improve their active listening skills.

10. Story Retelling and Sequencing: Engaging students in activities where they listen to a story and then retell it in their own words, as well as sequence the events in the correct order, can reinforce their listening comprehension abilities.

In addition to these approaches, it's also essential to emphasize the value of providing a supportive and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to engage in listening activities without fear of making mistakes. Tailoring these approaches to suit the individual needs and learning styles of elementary school students can further enhance the effectiveness of these strategies.

Here are some notable works and research studies conducted by scientists and educators aimed at improving the listening comprehension competencies of primary school students:

- "Effective Practices for Developing Reading Comprehension" by Elfrieda H. Hiebert: This work delves into the effective instructional practices for improving reading comprehension, which includes strategies for developing listening comprehension as a foundational skill.

- "Listening Comprehension in the Elementary Grades: The Role of Fluency, Vocabulary, and Text Comprehensibility" by Julie E. Dockrell, Charles Hulme, and Margaret J. Snowling: This research study examines the key factors influencing listening comprehension in elementary grades, offering insights into the interplay between fluency, vocabulary, and text comprehensibility.

- "The Power of Listening in the Classroom" by Michael Rost: Rost's work explores the power of listening as a crucial component of language learning and comprehension, with specific implications for primary school education.

- "Listening Comprehension Learning in Elementary School: A Longitudinal Meta-Analysis" by Hui Li and Yi Zheng: This meta-analysis reviews longitudinal studies on listening comprehension learning in elementary school settings, offering a comprehensive overview of effective strategies and outcomes.

- "Listening and Understanding: Developing Early Language and Thinking Skills Through Listening" by Angela Notari-Syverson, Carol Padden, and Lawrence R. Squire: This work focuses on the development of early language and thinking skills through effective listening strategies, catering to the needs of young learners in primary education.

- "Listening and Speaking for Elementary School Students: A Classroom-Based Approach" by Christy M. Seifert and Mary S. Roe: This work provides practical insights and strategies for educators to enhance listening and speaking skills in elementary school students, emphasizing the importance of a balanced approach to language development.

- "Teaching for Listening Comprehension" by Patricia L. Carrell and Joan C. Eisterhold: Carrell and Eisterhold's research offers a comprehensive exploration of effective teaching approaches and pedagogical strategies to develop listening comprehension skills in language learners, with relevance to elementary education.

These works and research studies contribute invaluable insights into the development and enhancement of listening comprehension competencies among primary school students, offering evidence-based practices and instructional approaches for educators and education policymakers.

The pedagogical prerequisites for the formation of listening comprehension competence in English language classes include creating a supportive and engaging learning environment,

providing appropriate and authentic listening materials, teaching listening strategies, and

providing regular feedback and assessment.

Overall, the formation of listening comprehension competence is an important aspect of

English language education for elementary school students, and it requires careful planning,

implementation, and evaluation by skilled and knowledgeable teachers.
