Аннотация научной статьи по языкознанию и литературоведению, автор научной работы — Sun Nan

Intercultural communication is communication between native speakers and people who are not native speakers, as well as any communication between people with differences in language and cultural traditions. Since people living in different linguistic environments have differences in language habits, human history and customs, it is easy to misunderstand and fail in communication if they do not understand each other’s cultural habits in the process of communication. Thus, understanding linguistic customs and cultural traditions promotes effective communication and ensures good intercultural communication with each other. Language is the carrier of culture, and culture is the content carried by language. For any language subject, it is impossible to separate culture in the teaching process. Therefore, it is necessary and important to strengthen the cultivation of students’ intercultural communication skills in College English teaching. To achieve this, teachers need to build a good intercultural teaching system, promote students’ absorption of intercultural knowledge, cultivate students’ intercultural awareness, so as to further improve students’ English language communication ability and effectively realize the cultivation of students’ comprehensive English application ability.

Исследование межкультурного преподавания английского языка в колледже

Сунь Нань,

старший преподаватель, магистр, преподаватель английского языка Шэньянского политехнического университета E-mail: lucysun1981@126.com

I. Intercultural Communication

Intercultural communication refers to communication between native speakers and non-native speakers, as well as any communication between people who have differences in language and cultural backgrounds. Since people living in different language environments have differences in language habits, human history and customs, it is easy to misunderstand and fail in communication if they do not understand each other's cultural habits in the process of communication. Therefore, understanding each other's language habits and cultural backgrounds, passing and receiving information from each other's point of view, can reasonably and effectively carry out communication and realize good intercultural communication.

II. The Importance of Intercultural Teaching of College English

The Teaching Requirements for College English Course clearly states: "College English teaching is an integral part of higher education, and college English course is a compulsory basic course for college students. College English is a teaching system that takes English language knowledge and application skills, learning strategies and cross-cultural communication as the main contents, foreign language teaching theory as the guide, and integrates various teaching modes and teaching methods. The teaching goal of College English is to cultivate students' comprehensive English application ability, especially listening and speaking ability, so that they can communicate effectively in English in their future study, work and social interaction, and at the same time enhance their independent learning ability and improve their comprehensive cultural literacy to meet the needs of China's social development and international exchange." [1]

Therefore, in College English teaching, teachers should not only guide students to actively communicate in spoken English, but also let them understand the culture of English-speaking countries, clarify the differences in cultural backgrounds and language differences with their home countries, etc., and take effective coping strategies for these differences in the language learning process, and follow and respect their cultural backgrounds when using other countries' languages to communicate, so as to make communication smoother.

III. Basic Strategies for Teaching Cross-culture of College English

1. Enhancing intercultural teaching awareness among instructors

As the guide of classroom teaching, the teacher's competence directly affects the development of teaching activities. The teacher is a key role in intercultural teaching of College English, "the most important source of cultural information for students, and the teacher's knowledge structure and the teacher's attitude toward culture and culture teaching are all related to the success of culture teaching". [2]

Intercultural teaching of College English requires teachers with a high level of cultural literacy, especially intercultural communication knowledge and ability. In other words, the lack of teachers' own intercultural communication skills will lead to the lack of teaching the cultural connotation of language in College English teaching. Therefore, College English teachers should constantly update their educational concepts and enhance their intercultural teaching awareness to meet the needs of our society and the development of higher education.

2. Developing students' awareness of intercultural learning

As the main subject of classroom teaching, students' learning ability and comprehension directly affect the teaching effect. Most students focus mostly on the development of English ability in the process of English learning, and the focus of learning is often on English words, discourses, grammar, etc., while ignoring the learning of English culture. A good command of English is only the basis for intercultural communication. In the actual application of English, the lack of understanding of the cultural background of English and the lack of common sense may make the communication unsuccessful. Therefore, it is very important to strengthen the cultivation of students' intercultural communication skills in College English teaching.

3. Increasing the intercultural content of materials

Intercultural teaching cannot be carried out well without teachers' rich teaching contents and scientific planning before teaching. The selection of course content should reflect the effective integration of language content and cultural content. "The organic combination of language content and cultural content is the core idea of intercultural communication foreign language teaching. Language and culture are both purposes and means of teaching, and they are inseparable. In the textbooks, systematic cultural themes form the main line of materials, and the content of language teaching is actually integrated with these cultural contents." [3] Teachers ^ can use the Internet to search for cross-cultural teach-c ing content, use multimedia tools to edit and integrate ^ cross-cultural knowledge, and also conduct regular S communication with their peers and foreign teachers and students in schools to share resources and broad-z en their horizons.

4. Optimizing students' English proficiency evaluation system

The assessment of College English is too simple and single, basically focusing on "teaching content" and "course design". Most of the assessment results of College English are based on regular grades and final paper grades, and there is a lack of assessment standards for students' cultural literacy and way of thinking. Most importantly, there is a lack of corresponding content and measurement criteria for intercultural communication in the assessment. In order to promote students' better learning of intercultural knowledge, College English teachers should reasonably design or optimize the assessment system of students' English proficiency, and incorporate the content of intercultural communication in the assessment of students' English proficiency so that it takes up a certain proportion.

IV. Conclusion

Intercultural teaching of College English is an important means of developing intercultural communication skills among college students, and it is especially important for improving students' communicative competence and developing their overall English skills. "The most basic goal is to make students aware of intercultural communication and to identify its similarities and differences with their own culture." [4] The ultimate goal is to cultivate the intercultural communication ability of college students, and the development of such ability needs a long-term process. In order to improve the English literacy of college students, it is necessary to do a good job to further enrich the contents and materials of intercultural teaching and construct a more scientific evaluation system of college students' English proficiency, which is beneficial to promote and facilitate the overall teaching reform of College English.
