A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF THE STRUCTURAL-SEMANTIC PECULIARITIES OF ENGLISH AND UZBEK PHRASES

ABSTRACT
This article presents a comparative analysis of the structural-semantic peculiarities inherent in English and Uzbek phrases. The study employs a comprehensive linguistic approach to explore the syntactic and semantic intricacies of phrases in both languages, aiming to identify similarities, differences, and underlying patterns. The investigation involves a corpus-based examination of diverse phrase types, shedding light on how linguistic and cultural factors contribute to variations in phrase construction. By delving into the intricate interplay of syntax and semantics, this comparative study enriches our understanding of the linguistic landscapes of English and Uzbek, offering valuable insights for linguists, language educators, and researchers.

В данной статье представлен сравнительный анализ структурно-семантических особенностей, присущих английским и узбекским словосочетаниям. В исследовании используется комплексный лингвистический подход для изучения синтаксических и семантических сложностей фраз на обоих языках с целью выявления сходств, различий и основных закономерностей. Исследование включает в себя корпусное исследование различных типов фраз, проливающее свет на то, как лингвистические и культурные факторы способствуют вариациям в построении фраз. Углубляясь в сложное взаимодействие синтаксиса и семантики, это сравнительное исследование обогащает наше понимание языковых ландшафтов английского и узбекского языков, предлагая ценную информацию лингвистам, преподавателям языков и исследователям.

INTRODUCTION
To conduct a rigorous comparative study, a solid theoretical framework is essential. This research draws upon theories of phraseology, structural linguistics, and

cognitive linguistics. The theoretical foundation allows for a holistic examination of the syntactic and semantic dimensions of phrases, encompassing both form and meaning. The aim is to go beyond surface-level observations and unearth the deeper structures that shape the expression of thought in English and Uzbek. English and Uzbek, belonging to different language families (Germanic and Turkic, respectively), exhibit inherent structural differences in their phrases. The syntactic patterns governing the formation of noun phrases, verb phrases, and prepositional phrases are scrutinized to identify commonalities and divergences.1 The role of word order, syntactic functions, and grammatical categories in shaping phrase structures becomes a focal point, highlighting the impact of linguistic typology on phrase construction. Beyond syntactic structures, the study delves into the semantic peculiarities that characterize English and Uzbek phrases. Semantic roles, collocational patterns, and the use of metaphorical expressions are examined to uncover the cultural and cognitive dimensions that contribute to meaning construction. This section of the research aims to unravel how speakers of English and Uzbek conceptualize and convey ideas through the nuanced interplay of words within phrases. The findings of this comparative study have far-reaching implications for language educators, researchers, and linguists. Language is an intricate and multifaceted aspect of human communication, reflecting the diversity of cultures, history, and societal norms. The study of the structural and semantic features of different languages provides insight into the ways in which human beings convey meaning, express emotions, and articulate their thoughts. In this context, a comparative analysis of the structural and semantic peculiarities of English and Uzbek phrases offers the opportunity to explore the similarities and differences between these two languages, shedding light on the complexities and richness of linguistic expression.

The structural characteristics of phrases in English and Uzbek reveal the distinct syntactic patterns and grammatical constructions that shape the linguistic landscape of these languages. In English, phrases are typically composed of a headword—a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb—accompanied by modifiers or complements that provide additional information or context. The order of words within a phrase follows a specific syntactic structure, with variations in word order serving to convey emphasis, nuance, or rhetorical effect. In contrast, Uzbek phrases exhibit a different syntactic structure, influenced by the Turkic language family's unique grammatical features. Uzbek phrases commonly employ agglutinative morphology, which entails the addition of affixes, suffixes, and prefixes to the root word to denote grammatical functions, including tense, mood, aspect, and case. This characteristic feature allows for a high degree of expressiveness and precision within Uzbek phrases, enabling the conveyance of nuanced meanings through grammatical inflection.3
Semantic Peculiarities of English and Uzbek Phrases
The semantic peculiarities of English and Uzbek phrases encompass the associative meanings, connotations, and cultural references inherent in linguistic expressions. The semantic peculiarities of Uzbek phrases are imbued with cultural and historical significance, reflecting the traditions, folklore, and social customs of Uzbek-speaking communities. This semantic richness is evidenced in the idiomatic expressions, proverbs, and poetic forms that permeate Uzbek language usage, encapsulating the values, beliefs, and shared experiences of Uzbek culture.

Moreover, English and Uzbek phrases exhibit distinct syntactic and grammatical features, with English employing a largely analytic structure, characterized by the use of auxiliary verbs, prepositions, and word order to convey grammatical relations, while Uzbek employs a predominantly agglutinative and suffixing structure, marked by the addition of affixes and suffixes to the root word to convey grammatical and semantic information. The semantic peculiarities of English and Uzbek phrases are similarly distinct, reflecting the unique cultural, historical, and literary influences that shape the semantic repertoires of these languages. English phrases often reflect a global and multicultural lexicon, incorporating loanwords, idiomatic expressions, and metaphoric usages that reflect the language's extensive literary tradition and global impact. In contrast, Uzbek phrases draw upon a rich linguistic tradition that reflects the cultural heritage, social customs, and poetic sensibilities of Uzbek-speaking communities, encompassing idiomatic expressions, proverbs, and symbolic references that convey the unique cultural ethos of Uzbekistan.
Structural-semantic peculiarities of Uzbek phrases can be complex and unique, reflecting the grammar and syntax of the Uzbek language. Uzbek is a Turkic language and is spoken by over 30 million people in Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries. The language has its own distinct features, and this is reflected in the way phrases are constructed and interpreted.
One of the notable structural features of Uzbek phrases is the use of suffixes and prefixes to modify the meaning of words. These affixes are added to the root of the word and can change its grammatical function or indicate tense, aspect, mood, or case. For example, the suffix -ni is used to indicate the direct object in Uzbek, and the suffix -ga is used to indicate the indirect object.4
Another structural peculiarity is the use of agglutination, where multiple suffixes and prefixes can be added to a word to convey complex meaning. This can result in long and intricate phrases that convey a lot of information in a single word. For example, the phrase "Men bilan" (I am with) can be further modified and extended to "Men do'stlarim bilan" (I am with my friends).
In terms of semantics, Uzbek phrases often reflect the cultural and social context in which the language is used. This can be seen in the use of honorifics and politeness markers in phrases, which indicate the speaker's respect for the listener and their

It is important to note that the structural-semantic peculiarities of Uzbek phrases are influenced by historical and cultural factors, and may vary across different regions and dialects. As the language continues to evolve and adapt to modern contexts, these peculiarities may also change over time. Overall, the structural-semantic peculiarities of Uzbek phrases contribute to the richness and complexity of the language, and reflect the unique worldview and communication style of the Uzbek people.
