Abstract. Despite the fact that the active search and development of radioprotective drugs have been conducted since the middle of the last century, this problem cannot be considered solved. This is due to the fact that all currently recognized effective radioprotectors are chemically toxic. Therefore, a search is being conducted for potential radioprotective drugs among non-toxic or low-toxic natural compounds. There is extensive information in the literature regarding these substances. But most of them are scattered and unsystematic. Most of these works do not provide any data or even assumptions about the mechanism of the radioprotective effect of the drugs presented. And the lack of information about the mechanisms of action of the substance and its metabolic pathways complicate further research to find the most clinically acceptable and effective form of the drug. There is information in the literature that chlorophyll-based drugs may have radioprotective properties. There are especially many reports on the watersoluble product of its saponification - chlorophyllin. The most commonly used copper complex of chlorophyllin is much more stable compared to the magnesium or nonmetallic form. This work is devoted to the study of the properties of chlorophyllin, the concepts of which are necessary for the development of a clinically acceptable form of the drug. In the course of the work, the optical properties of copper chlorophyllin were studied: the molar extinction coefficient at the absorption maximum (? = 405 ) is 33800 l/molcm. The data obtained are necessary for the correct assessment of the dosage of the drug. We have explored a molecular model by using the chemiluminescence registration method. It was found that the suppression of lipid peroxidation reactions can play an important role in the mechanism of the radioprotective effect of chlorophyll-based drugs. We used a suspension of lymphocytes by spectrophotometry. It was shown that copper chlorophyllin is able to penetrate into cells. This greatly facilitates the development of ways to deliver the drug to target cells.
