SHAKESPEARE: TO SHAKE SCENE IS (?) TO SHAKE OUR DISPOSITION, OR FRAGMENT OF FANTASTIC LITERARY CRITICISM

It is known that the playwright Robert Greene, one of the earliest critics of Shakespeare, called him in 1592 among those who were «shake-scene» men, and it was a play on words and pamphleteering attack. An unknown author of memorial verse called Green himself «green, pleasant to the eye». See: [1]. In the era of sophisticated cryptograms such partly kindred to them guileless play on words was in vogue. In «Hamlet» names are played in different ways, only Horatio name caused several serious and not very serious assumptions by Anton Ivanitsky and Andrey Chernov (see: [2]). Let’s add to this poor Rosenkrantz, who along with his friend falls victim to prince's tongue (prince, who entered a dangerous, but extremely theatrical game) as «two Provincial roses on razed shoes» of a provincial actor [3]. Could it be that the author of this text did not include in the game and his own name? Yes, it could be so. And it could be otherwise. To convince yourself of the yes or no in that case, just let’s look at the Shakespeare’s text. In the tragedy the word «shake» and its derivatives appear several times, but the only principal moment seems to be the one, where the matter are ghosts: they appear «to shake our (human’s. P. T., E. T. ) disposition» [3]. Since the role of Hamlet's father ghost, as legend says, was played by Shakespeare himself, so why not to confirm here the words of his acerbic critic? I. e. to admit that not only as a ghost, but also as a playwright he does not really mind to shake the scene/stage and the souls of his audience.

SHAKESPEARE: TO SHAKE SCENE IS (?) TO SHAKE OUR DISPOSITION,
